On the back of the system case are an green knobb, puch it downwards and the HDD lid on the right side pops open.
Push it upwards and the left side panel opens up.

The 2 drivers listed for Dell SX270 on Dell website do not work. Still get yellow exclamation in device manager after trying both graphics drivers.

try removing the driver/uninstalling it, and rebooting it. One of those should do it. I believe it's the intel 82865G graphics controller for the SX270.

Optiplex SX270 LED light code

Hello

The LED code you described indicates a memory failure. Remove and re-install all of your memory. If this does not fix the issue, remove all memory and insert one stick at a time until the unit turns on. Replace faulty memory.

Here is the LED Code guide from Dell...

How do you install a hard drive to a dell optiplex sx270

This computer only has one space for a 2.5" hard drive (IDE ATA100). Unplug all external cords from the computer (including the power cord) and press the power button (this grounds the system board). Remove the mounting plate and cable cover if these are attached. Place the unit on its side with the back connectors towards you (power supply to the left) and slide the release button towards the right. The hard drive door should open. Ground yourself by touching unpainted metal on the case. Rotate the door up and remove the data cable from the drive (carefully). Raise the release tab (on the opposite side from the data cable) and pull the drive up and away from the door. If you need to, remove the sled from the old hard drive (4 screws, 2 on each side) and attach the sled to the new drive. (If the new drive came with a sled, skip this step.) Slide the new drive onto the drive door. Attach the data cable carefully to avoid bending the pins (just the ribbon section is used, the other 4 pins are left bare). Slide the drive into the drive bay and lower the door to lock it into place. Replace the cord cover and mounting plate if in use and connect all of the external cables. Plug the network cable into the wall jack, router, or modem before connecting it to the computer. Follow the directions that came with the drive for any software installation. Reboot the computer, partition and logically format the hard drive. See the OS documentation for this step. Test the hard drive by running the Dell Diagnostics, http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/opsx270/en/ug/adtshoot.htm#1172888 . Install the OS for your system.

If the chassis alert comes on at the next reboot, reset it (contact IT if there is a password on the BIOS).

I hope this helps.

Error while trying to install windows xp Stop: 0x0000007B on a dell Optiplex sx270

The most popular Blue Screen of Death error in Windows is the STOP 0x0000007B error, sometimes called the 0x7b error or the "INACCESSIBLE BOOT DEVICE" BSOD.
This BSOD (which is actually the common name for a STOP Error) could mean that there's a serious hardware problem with a hard drive controller, a driver issue, or even a boot sector virus.
In your case though, this is most likely one of 4 capacitors that are known to blow out on any SX270. Slide the bar at the back of your PC to the remove cover side and look inside for swollen caps. Remove the fans and cpu cover as well and check around there. Replace any bad ones you can find with old caps borrowed from an old motherboard if you have one, or new ones from any decent electronics parts warehouse. This fix has worked for me on every SX270 I have ever had.

Insructions needed open cover on specifically sx270 optiplex

Lay the unit DVDRoM face down, and then slide the green 'thingy' (technical jargon) on the back of the unit in the only direction that it will go (should be a diagram on the case itself, to show how...) and at the same time slide the upper casing forward. I have one of these suckers, and it ain't as easy as it could be, but it will move!
Good luck!
