Start taking your laptop apart piece by piece and test it after each removed component:
1. Remove the hard drive and test the laptop.
2. Remove the DVD drive and test the laptop.
3. Remove the wireless card and test the laptop.
4. Unplug the display panel from the motherboard/video card and test the laptop.
etc....
Continue taking it apart until you have only three major components connected: motherboard (with video card), processor, and memory. If you still experience the same problem, most likely it's bad motherboard.
By the way, before you start, try reconnecting the memory module. If you have two modules installed, try removing them one by one and test the laptop with each one separately.

if the poer light turns on but nothing happens on the system possible the power supply on the motherboard which distributes the power to all the components of your laptop. and this means that you will need to have you system motherboard replaced, if I may have you tried removing the battery ans turning the system on using the adaptor only ? try it it the system turns on possibly the batter is causing the motherboard some issue on distributing the power to the system and may need to be replaced, try the batt first before going to the option of replacing the motherboard ^_^

Generally, it is an indication that the system is not receiving power. Here are some possibilities:

1. Bad AC adapter, not providing any/enough power to start system/charge battery. Try a different AC adapter, see if anything changes.
2. Bad damaged AC connector on motherboard. If the power connection to system is wobbley and not firm, then the adapter plug may be broken. It is possible to got the plug repaired/replaced but generally this is a motherboard replacement.
3. A component is preventing system from starting. Remove all customer removable items (HDD, CD Drive, RAM, Modem, Wireless Card & battery) see if system will power on and give any error codes (The lock lights on/flashing) If the symptoms change with the removable parts out, then add them back one at a time and see if the system will turn on. If no change, again, replace the motherboard.
