I'm an idiot. Last night a can of Coke exploded in my bag holding my G10, and it got wet. I took the battery out and have been wiping down the contacts and other parts that got wet and sticky with a q-tip, but it's just not turning on. I press the power button and...nothing.
I work at a camera rental house in NYC and my co-workers told me I made a mistake in trying to turn the camera on after I discovered the accident, that it might have created a short of some kind. The camera did indeed turn on at first and there was some sort of error message about replacing the battery. So that's what I did. And since then, I have been trying to clean it and then replacing the battery, but the camera has not turned on since.
Chances are you did create a short circuit. But, even if you would have given the camera a week to dry buried in a bowl of dry rice, the stickiness and the acidity of the soda would have continued to cause even more damage. Unless you're willing to spend some serious money to fix it, I would consider another camera and a more careful lifestyle.
