My tv turns on, and it shows the Atlas screen, then it turns black with a gray square on the top left corner and it just stays there.

I have the same problem. How can we trouble shoot to see which one of the potential issues might truly be the problem? It would seem strange to me if this is a backlight problem as the atlas screen shows fine before the screen freezes with the grey box in the top left.

Thanks for using FixYa. From what you have described it seems that you might have a backlight issue with this TV set. It could also be due to the inverter circuits for the backlights. The inverter is the power supply source for the backlights. There could also be a screen driver problem; if it is then you have to change the entire board. All this is only recommended if you have some kind of expertise for checking the internal circuitry of the TV as these units have high voltages running even when the set is switched off.
