Magic Chef 31000 Gas Kitchen Range Logo

My question is about an earlier Magic Chef model -- the CGS3760ADQ. When the electronic control calls for "Broiler" the glow plug comes on, and as soon as it gets hot enough the gas valve supplies gas to the broiler burner. When "Bake" is turned on, the bake igniter comes on and will stay hot until I give up and hit "Cancel." But, the gas valve never sends gas to the bake burner. This range has worked without a miss since purchased brand new 9 years ago, but replacing the gas valve or control module would cost almost as much as a new stove -- at discounts now available. I want to fix the range, and the operation of the broiler seems to say that the control module and the gas valve are working. Does anyone know why the gas is not going to the bake burner, once the glow bar has gotten to operating temperature?

    Dear MJ,

Many thanks for your speedy reply and good advice!

I was hoping that replacing the igniter would save the range -- I have downloaded the old Maytag Repair Manual, and it described operation just as you have explained.

The confusing thing is that the glow plug "seems" to get as hot as the one for the broil burner -- which works! "Appearances can be deceiving."

Thanks for your experience and expertise -- it justifies replacing the igniter, following your excellent instructions.

Your additional advice about the replacement igniter is equally valuable -- how can I register an additional vote for your "Guru" rating with FixYa?

    Very best regards,

It sounds like you have a weak igniter. Just because the igniter is coming on and glowing doesnt mean its getting hot enough to open the gas valve. The way the igniter operates is as it heats up, the hotter it gets the more current is able to pass through it. It needs to be able to get hot enough to allow the proper current to reach the gas valve for the gas valve to open. This is the issue 99/100 times. In the 4 years i've been working for my company I have only replaced two gas valves and both times it was because the customer shorted it out themselves by trying to replace the igniter without unplugging the unit. My website is down to be able to cross-reference the part and get you pricing but the factory OEM number for the bake igniter is 7432P075-60.

The igniter will be mounted on your burner tube by 2 5/16 screws. Will have to remove the bottom panel of the oven to access it. You will need to remove the broiler drawer at the bottom to acces the harness for the igniter. Unclip the harness and pull the igniter out from the top. BE SURE TO UNPLUG THE UNIT FIRST as you could run the risk of shorting your gas valve.

Good luck with the repair. Let me know how it goes. _MJ_

I was able to cross reference your part number, your OEM part is no longer available. The cheapest cross reference part is part number 5303935066 it will come with ceramic wire nuts and you will need to cut the harness off and just wire it directly. It does'nt matter which wire goes to which side because you are just completing a circuit.

    Hope this helps. MJ

I have a Magic Chef model cgr3760adh that the oven and broiler won't light.

Is it new? If you just hooked it up, it might take a little time to bleed the air out of the gas line. Also make sure that the gas valve is open. I know it sounds obvious but it is left closed many times.

I have a Magic Chef gas oven. The broiler won't turn off. Ihad to shut off the gas and unplug it. Model 3568XVW. Where should I start?

This is usually caused by the main control. The relay for the broiler has likely melted into the on position. Here is a link that should help Replacing oven ERC

My Magic Chef model 9112XUB wall oven will not light. It has power and gas but will not ignite. What can I do to fix it myself?

If this model has electronic ignition, you can open up the broiler door , turn on the oven, and look to the rear of the broiler...there should be a sort of glow plug getting reddish/orange. If not, the oven won't light and you will need to obtain an ignitor for the oven. these are available through appliance parts distributors such as Bell Parts Suppy. If it is a standing pilot model, then first check to see if the pilot is lit...if it's not lit try lighting...if it won't stay lit, then the thermocouple is probably bad and will need to be replaced

Magic Chef Broiler won't turn off

If this is brand new you need to get this taken care of under warranty. Any thing you try to do to repair will void the warranty and with all the electronics on this stove you want warranty to repair. Sorry I wasn't much help but you don't want the warranty voided.

ELECTRIC OVEN THE RANGE WORKS BUT THE OVEN AND BROILER WILL NOT WORK

Without a proper model number I would say you need to replace the electronic clock/timer control. It could also be a relay power board in the back of the range if it has one. beast to call a reliable repair company such as sears.

Gas Oven - no flame at Bake Baffle - Glow Bar glows fine

If the glow bar is working (glowing) it is the gas valve. BUT, the glow bar can also actually glow and still not be working 100% and letting enough current through to the valve. You could swap an identical valve out to check it, if you don't have a meter. It's more than likely the valve though.

Oven won't light

Hey im sorry to hear that...
I fix many ovens., however not really familiar to yours...
However instead of searching for thermostat, try looking for either thermo-couple, falme flaiure device or falme safety device these are the three main termonologies used....

Hope this helps......

Im sorry cant provide you with a full on solution ... but my guess is that your is probably a thermocouple......
