Hp a305w Pavilion No Mouse or Keyboard at first bootup

This computer will boot but the mouse and keyboard don't work.
I must pull the plug and put it back in and try again.
Than everything is fine and I have the mouse and keyboard working again.
This only happens at first cold boot, than after I got the mouse and keyboard working and I do a restart, everything works fime.
I found the BIOS 2032 battery low, I changed it but still have the same problem.
The computer works fine after second boot.

How do I go about resetting the mouse and keyboard to defaults?

I don't see anything about the mouse or keyboard in the BIOS.

The only place I see them in in the device drivers in the system folder, is that where I reset them to defaults??

I only have a dead mouse at first boot not a dead keyboard like I first mentioned.

My mistake because I was trying to do an ALT CTL & DEL and it did not respond, but later on that keyboard started to work, so I am sorry for the misinformation.

But I still have no mouse at first boot, so after unplugging and plugging the computer back in it booted fine with mouse.

So than I went to system, device manager and uninstalled the mouse and rebooted.

It "found new hardware? and all seemed okay, until I shut off the computer and did a bootup...no mouse!!!

What do I have to do, reinstall XP again?

I would reset your keyboard and mouse settings to default then shut down pc.. unplug components and wait for 3o secs and then try again.. if the problem persists, you may just have some loose connections especially if your pc is older..make sure there is enough slack for your mouse and keyboard wire to move around.. i know sometimes we can ruin them if we have then stretched to far out.. hope this helps.. d

USB ports fail - no mouse or keyboard on start up on hp pavilion desktop p6000

some older computers don't load usb devices until after windows is booted and in such instances usually a traditional ps2 mouse and keyboard (green and purple plugs respectively) are the best option to enter the bios or boot from cd/dvd

if you are sure that your mouse and keboard are in good condittion and it is all ps2 port type the problem maybe the system driver for keyboard and mouse of your operating system, please get an extra usb port type keyboard and mouse and plugged it in to your pc and power it on the usb type keyboard and mouse may refresh the system driver and may read again your ps2 type keyboard and mouse.

A lot depends on where the keyboard and mouse are plugged in. I have seen in the past that the USB in the back works better than the front. Are these the original keyboard and mouse? If not, use the original until after Windows loads the desktop.

What is the best mouse and keyboard to get for my HP Pavilion?

HP mouse and a HP keyboard, preferably devices that match your computer. You didn't get these items when you purchased your computer?

Keyboard and mouse not working when windows starts

Hi there.
While you are in the operating system, unplug both the USB devices, then plug them back in, let windows recognize the new hardware and install it for you, this can take a couple of minutes, once it says hardware is installed and ready to use reboot the PC and see if you can use the keyboard and mouse while in the OS.
please post back with any more problems

Good luck and thanks for using Fixya!!!

Wont boot or post

Did you say that you CAN plug in a mouse or keyboard and the machine boots fine, or are you asking if you can do this? If you computer is freezing up at the BIOS screen then most likely you have a failing memory stick.

If you are familiar and comfortable doing so, try removing both sticks (if you have two) of ram. Make sure you have the battery removed and the power cord unplugged. Then try to boot up the machine without the RAM and with only the power cord plugged in. See if you get any type of message or response. Then, hold down the power button to turn the machine off again, remove the power cord, and try booting with just one stick of RAM at a time.

Logitec Wireless keyboard and mouse

essense702,
I presume the batteries were in correctly.
did you connect them when the computer was off, and let windows find them on bootup.
Also, make sure that you follow directions on how to get them to connect. And, make sure you run the cd that came with it.
