"protect" error getting "protect" error message,unplugged all speakers - still has error

You may have a shorted speaker voice coil, unplug them one at a time and see if the message goes away.

From what I have seen..........

Either you have a speaker that is shorting out, Try unplugging on speaker at a time and turning the unit on, and see if it goes out of protected mode. Keep the volume turned low while doing that. Just go by process of elimination. Or you can disconnect all speakers and see if you still get the error message. If not then connect 1 speaker at a time, if it goes in to protected mode while doing a speaker connection then you found the bad speaker.

Otherwise another thing I read a hard reset you should be able to do on the unit is hold down the power button until it display a message that says "Clear All", then hit enter or follow the directions it gives that should reset the alarm code if the receiver will allow it.

Hopefully one of those 2 things will clear your error........

Is the message "Protector" or "Protected"? Several models will say Protected if there is a voltage/power issue with either the unit or the speakers attached.

This can be triggered by a short in a wire to the speakers or to the unit itself or a blown fuse inside the unit. Unplug the receiver from the incoming power from both the receiver and the outlet, if possible. (This applies if it is a free-standing unit; units in cars are different.) Then unplug the speaker connections. Reconnect the AC power and attempt to turn on. Does the error persist? If it has been resolved, plug in the speakers one by one. If you get the message as you plug in the speakers, check the wires for a short. Check if your speakers are drawing more power than the receiver is capable of handling. (This only applies if the speakers are directly connected to the receiver.)

If the message occurs before you plug in the speakers, check for a problem with the ground as well as for a short in the rest of the power connections on the unit. If there is no obvious damage, then if the unit is still under warranty, consult the manufacturer for a warranty repair. Otherwise you'll need to open the unit and check the circuitry. (Replacing the fuse may work. However it will not resolve the problem if there is another problem that is causing the fuse to blow.)

Hi,
Check speaker wires, any wire seems shorted and causing Protect Unplug error message in receiver.
Good way to sort out bad wire is plug one speaker at a time, turn On receiver check, turn Off, then plug next speaker wire until you find out what speaker wire activates protection circuit of receiver.

Usually the protect is a safe mode to indicate that your set is unsafe. Starrt by checking the speakers, speaker wires for shorting. detach the speaker lines and power on the set for confrimation. check in power/auxially circuits in the set. it is possible that your mechanism drive / audio output drive Ic's could have shorted. Most of these cirrcuits have an error detection of higher current to cut off power and issue a protect warning. so discoonect the IC power to confirm. Hope this helps. Good day

Causes that can start protect mode are:

Electrostatic harges on internal circuits.
Leave the unit unplugged for power for one hour or so, this will allow discharge.

Bad speaker wiring.
Check speaker wiring, try unplugging and plugging back, or start after removing one speaker at the time.

Internal fault.
Internal fault is the natural cause for protect mode. If all the above did not work, then the problem is a blown component or an internal fault. In this case the unit must be taken apart , tested and repaired by an experienced person.
If the unit is less than one year old, or if you want to get service, call Sony at the phone number listed on the product documentation.

Activated protection circuitry means that the amplifier is seeing conditions it does not like and is shutting down the power to prevent further damage.
Either you have a short in your speaker wires, in your speakers, or a blown amplifier.
Disconnect both speakers and turn on the amplifier. Does it still give the error message? If it does, your amp is blown. If it does not, carefully inspect your speaker wires and their connection. Make sure all looks good and reconnect the speakers and try it again. Still get the error message? You likely have a problem in your speaker cabinet(s).

"Protect" isn't for security on a Kenwood; it's caused by a problem with the speaker output. There may be a defect in the CD player, or you may have a blown speaker or a shorted speaker wire in the vehicle. Try disconnecting all the speakers and see if the unit still shows "protect" when you turn it on. If it still shows the "protect" message with no speakers connected, the unit needs to be serviced; if not, re-connect the speakers one at a time until you find out which one is causing the problem.
