The paddle on my panasonic breadmaker has stopped turning. Without the pan the mechanism revolves but once the pan is in place the paddle does not move.

The manual lists no funny tricks and just says;

Carefully snap the baking

See if you can work out what clicks? It has to be the bottom of the paddle or something on the side of the pan. Parts are available

This image shows a spring clip in the base of the paddle. Is yours working? Are you pressing the paddle down once the pan is in the breadmaker?

I just purchased this 2 days ago and started to use it. I noticed the bread pan would wobble and was noisy during the kneading cycle. On the second use the paddle came off during the kneading cycle. Being a service technician all my life, I started to analyze the problem. I was previously surprised how loose the bread pan fitted into the bread maker and suspected there should be something to support the pan and hold it in place. I could not see anything obvious, but after looking carefully I noticed spring clips on the bottom of the bread pan, and also mating spring clips in the bottom of the bread maker. If I pushed the bread pan down fairly hard into the bread maker the bread pan would snap firmly in place. This stopped the wobbling during the kneading cycle and the paddle coming off. I could not find anywhere in the manual where it explained the bread pan must be pushed firmly down into place until it snaps in. The manufacturer should explain this to their customers on their website.

Pull the pan out and turn the little paddle with your finger. Is the paddle slipping on the spindle? If yes, then your paddle is worn out. If you move the paddle around and it doesn't slip on the spindle then look to see if the ears on the bottom of the pan are turning too when you move the paddle. If yes, then your problem is further down in the machine. You may have a slipping belt. Those are some of the things you can check.

The gear grease you are referring to is from the sealed bearing on the bottom of the pan. This has failed and will not allow the paddle to rotate. There is no replacement parts, and a new bread pan is needed. Sorry..Hank.

Try putting warm water in the pan and let it soak. Try it a few times. If you can't turn the paddle by hand, then the sealed bearing that turns the paddle is frozen and can't be repaired. Sorry Hank

Take the bread pan out of the machine and run a kneading cycle. If it is noisy with the pan out then you can take the belt off and try a kneading cycle again. If it's quiet, the yep it's the belt. If still noisy its a gear or the motor itself. If everything is quiet with the pan out then it's the pan itself. There is a sealed bearing in the pan that allows the paddle to spin. The seal on the bearing leaks oil and the bearing either freezes or does not let the paddle spin freely. There is no replacement for the sealed bearing ..and a new pan is needed. Good Luck Hank

There is a sealed bearing and shaft on the bottom of the bread pan that the paddle sits on. Submerging the whole pan in water may have caused water to seep into the bearing on the bottom of the pan, or the whole pan might be worn. Slight resistant in 2 places on 360 degree is not bad. Let everything dry out and we will try a few things. First, put the paddle in the empty pan and place it in the machine. Start a kneading cycle and look trough the lid to see if the paddle is spinning freely and with smooth motion 360 degrees. Watch it until you are sure it will run freely for the entire cycle. If it does not run freely, stop the machine and take the pan out. Now start the kneading cycle again with the pan out and look at the motor shaft at the bottom of the machine to see it it is running freely. If it is running freely, then the problem is with the pan, and the pan needs replacement. If the motor shaft is not turning freely, then the belt is slipping in the machine and needs to be replaced. If everything runs smoothly check the kneading time to make sure your mix has enough time to knead correctly. Hank

The paddle can be fixed with a set screw or two if you are mechanically inclined. The bushing can be put back into place with plumber's putty and work for 6-8 months making bread daily. You can use it totally without the stupid rubber seal. If you are beyond these fixes, then you need a new pan - as do I. Same story, called several times, got no reply.

I fixed this by using an "e-clip". You can get e-clips at any autoparts store, or online in assortment kits for cheap money. You have to remove the spring seal and washers inside the pan, you also have to remove the circlip on the bottom of the paddle shaft, you have to install the paddle from the inside once you have the right size e-clip installed.

It's a lot harder to explain than to do, once you get it apart you'll see how things go together. I have no clue what originally used to hold the shaft in, mine made sqealing noise, when I took it apart there was little left of the original part.

Try either turning the paddle slightly until it aligns with the "gear" under the bottom of the pan.
I've also pressed the start button, and when the mixing process began, managed to push the pan down until it's engaged properly.
