Cf error - camera now dead

Please can someone help me. I did a shoot with my 30D this morning - tried to download images via card reader, and computer couldn't pick it up - said the card hadn't been formatted. I put the card back into the camera to check if images were still there, and it came up with a cf error. I turned it off and took the battery out - replaced the battery, and now the camera wont even turn on. (the battery is charged) It has done exactly the same thing with my 400D, but with a different card. I am a wedding photographer, so these cameras are very important to me!

None of this sounds good. I would start by checking the condition of the pins in the CF card slot. A small light and a loupe will help. If any of the pins are damaged, bent, or even missing, then the camera may have had a short circuit and blown the internal fuses. Neither the pins or the fuses are user replaceable.

ALTERNATE WAY TO TRANSFER PHOTOS AND VIDEOS TO A COMPUTER
If your photos and videos are stored on the memory card, then remove the memory card from the camera and insert it into an USB memory card reader. Connect this USB memory card reader and memory card into the USB port of your working computer. Your computer will see this as an USB Mass Storage Device or an external storage device; you can then open the folder on the memory card and copy the photos and to your computer. Memory card reader is a handy device and is inexpensive. You can copy photos from other cameras and you can also download photos off your memory card to someone else's computer without the need of installing any programs.

An error 2

Error 2 relates to the CF card for sure. Try if you can to format the card elsewhere such as another camera, or on a PC via a USB card reader.
If you still have issues with the card, it is dead - get yourself another one - or preferably two!

Bent/broken card reader pins. Take a flash light and look inside the card reader. There you'll see two rows of pins, 1or 2 will be bent (common problem).

Error code 22

ERR 22: CF DRIVER
DESCRIPTION: This error occurs when image data cannot be written to the CF card. This error can occur when the CF card is not fully seated in the camera or if the D30 does not detect a card-ready signal within a specified time limit or when the CF card is not usable because it has been corrupted or physically damaged. It can also occur when the camera's battery level is insufficient to completely write the file to the CF card. REMEDIAL MEASURE: Use the DC Coupler or recharge the battery first. If the error continues to occur with sufficient power available to the camera, check that the CF card is properly inserted. If that's not the problem, then try replacing the CF card. If that does not solve the problem, have the EOS D30 and one of the CF cards that is causing the problem examined by a qualified service technician.

Canon 20d raw to pc

Have you ever been able to view the pictures on your pc?
Have you got a card reader that can view the card contents externaly from the camera?
I found the Canon software is quite as happy from a card reader as it is reading from the camera. (I have the next model up, 30D.)
Have you tried upgrading your software, or tried using a third party image program to read the raw files?
Over to you!

Dynamite,
have you tried to reformat the CF card?  If you deleted the image through your computer and not with the camera, the computer may have removed more than what was needed...
