Mitsubishi WS-55807 TV won't turn on

I was watching my Mitsubishi WS-55807 tonight and suddenly a loud pop from the speakers as the tv shut off on its own. Tried to turn it back on - green light came on for a few seconds then went off. No picture or sound. Started smelling burnt circuitry. Removed back cover but didn't see anything burning or burned. Help????

Thanks,

Shawn

    Hello,

The TV used to make this loud pop then shut itself off. I would turn the TV back on, it would pop then shutoff after a few times it would eventually stay on. Last week it did it again but this time it would not come back on. I have sound but no picture.

    Any suggestions?

I have the same problem with my big screen. I was told (and saw with my own eyes) that it was the "Signal Board". It had a large scorch mark in the middle of the board. The tech said that it is usually caused by one of the "color tubes" leakig acidic fluid from above onto the circuit board and causing it to carrode the board and short out. But, I had no sign of any of the color tubs leaking so he concluded that there was a possible electrical surge. My issue is that we can not fine a new or used "Signal Board". Any suggestions???

Won't come on

The power board has failed and will need to be repaired or replaced. you can remove this board and, replace individual parts and save a lot of money. You will be inspecting for swollen capacitors and resistors. also, look for discolorations on the board itself.

TV won' turn on

Solder, solder, solder! Shut down circuits protect crts to avoid permanent damage. If any of the deflection circuits are defective, or intermittent, shut down occurs. I have not only seen bad solder on deflection circuits, especially vertical, but also intermittent connections on the yokes themselves. I've also seen shorted convergence ics cause shut down. Don't forget solder connections in the power supply.
