Format your hardrive for Mac OS:
Go to Disk Utilities under the go menu in your finder. Select the external drive and click on the erase tab. Clikc erase again and it formats the drive. You can now copy files onto the drive.

I've had the same problem happen to me three times with drives, so I know the situation very well.
I'm sorry to tell you, but your drive is experiencing a motor failure. Meaning that the drive is dying. You do need to stop using the drive and find a data recovery service. If the drive is under warranty with Iomega, you can get a replacement drive. Unfortunately, no manufacturer will pay for the data recovery service, neither will they guarantee the data. Iomega does have a data recovery service that is good, but can be costly depending on the trouble on the drive and the amount of data that has to be recovered.
Do stop using the drive so that the discs in the drive can stay strong making data recovery easier (and not so costly). If you use your drive primarily for your business, you may want to invest in an online backup system that syncs with the data from your drives. I'm sorry for your troubles.

Hi,
Yes it is possible but the Iomegas are difficult to open and you often snap the plastic retainers in the process. Given you can buy a !TB comlete for only about $20 more than buying the raw drive I suspect you would be better advised to simply replace the unit all together,

You need to connect to the IOmega drive using windows xp and add a user.
In the explorer view in Vista at the top click on Map Network Drive.
At the bottom click "Connect using a different username" and enter the credentials that you created earlier.
In the box above for the location type in "\\IOmega's IP Address\Folder that you want to map".
Click on connect at the bottom should be done straight away and then you should be able to see it in "Network Places" as well. Let me know if this fixes the problem or not.

You may need to format the hard drive before you use it.
If your using a PC....go to Control Panel>Admin tools>Computer managemant.Disk Management....Create a new partition and format the drive (NTFS).
Using a Mac go to spotlight and type Disk utillities, partition the drive...
