If you see a very dim image or black screen or flicking image on the LCD screen it means you have a backlight problem.

Connect an external monitor to your laptop and power it up, if you see the normal Windows images then the video card and laptop is OK and the problem is definitely the backlight.

Dim image and/or dark display on the laptop's LCD screen indicates a faulty LCD backlight and it could be the inverter that supplies high voltage to the CCFL lamp or it is the CCLF lamp is nearly burnt out or burnt out, most likely this is the case.
The inverter can be replaced easily but the CCLF lamp is more time consuming and requires soldering skills.

My acer 9300 when switched on shows a blank screen (black with some faint white back ground) but the process of starting windows goes normally coz i can view this when connected to a monitor whats a miss ?...

This is a known fault with r710s but you could try to update your display driver

go to NVIDIA - Download Drivers

Update your nvidia drivers with this link (make sure you're using Windows 7 32bit) if not go to the nvidia site and let it scan your pc.

After you've done this you should be able to adjust your screen brightness through the windows brightness adjuster.

You are right the back light has failed, check the internet for samsung spare parts and repairs, there should be a few good how to's on how to change the back light, there are some good videos on youtube that will show you how.

It means you need to replace the back light or possibly the inverter.
