Just rendered my husband silent with awe...quick no cost repair to door latch Fridigaire Gallery Microwave... Please watch this video posted by someone else to learn how to remove the door panel www.youtube.com/watch?v=nIdT4kS3no Gently is the key to removing the panel.
After you remove the panel, lift the latch lever until it comes unseated. For our unit, the plastic tab in the door that held the spring was broken. I opened the bottom loop of the spring slightly with needle nose pliers. Threaded the spring loop onto the right stationary piece in the door. There is a hole to hold the spring just about the level of where the broken tab was. Put the top of the spring loop back on the latch tab and reinsert the latch assembly into their holders. Popped the panel back together and it works wonderfully. A flashlight, needle nose pliers, dinner knife and someone to steady the door is all you need. Bonus, what we saved on the repair can now be spent on some family fun....
Check the door latches inside the oven, open the housing and spray some lubricants on the latches.
