I have an Emerson SD 20 inch TV (its not a flat screen). SN# V12739168 & Model # CR202EM8. We purchased it 2007 (used it only 2 years). Suddenly it would go on and off by its self, then finally it turned off and would not turn back on. Don't know if I can fix it, but I would like to know what the problem is because I have heard that Emerson had a lot of problems with these TV's. I need to be aware of what's wrong, so I don't get ripped off with repairs. Thank you in advance. Jim

Check and replace damaged component/s at its horizontal scan output section circuit. Check the LOT (Line Output Transformer) too for damage. Replace the horizontal scan output transistor. Check the input voltage to LOT. If the voltage is absent check the feeder resistor; if any. If you wish to get some details; check the site linked here. Pull up older posts.

SOURCE: TV Powered Off, won't come back on

mine did the same thing, I took it to a TV repair store and they said it was a power surge which damaged the power source board. (possibly caused by lightening)
total cost to repair was $70.00 well worth since was only couple years old.
TV is working well.------we'll see for how long????

You should be okay just buying any generic universal remote. Any remote requires programming to work with a specific TV, but universal remotes are easily programmable. The instructions included with the universal remote will detail how you program that remote to work with your TV (usually along the lines of simply putting it in programming mode, and pressing the power button until it turns your TV off, and then locking it in)

SOURCE: Hi, I have an

This is a vertical deflection problem. If the picture shrinks suddenly after 20 minutes, then all that is needed is soldering the vertical deflection IC. If you can supply the model number, I can give you a location number in the set if you decide to fix it yourself. Otherwise, it can be fixed by a TV tech and the cost should be well under $100. If it needs the vertical IC replaced the cost of them is about $15 or a little less. Getting it shipped with other items that the tech needs for other sets should buffer the cost as shipping for it alone could run the cost to over $20. Also there is usually a 100 micro farad capacitor that needs to be changed along with the IC. But if you are lucky all you need is it to be soldered with no parts involved.

Well somtimes buttons break off of tv's because that they are old so its not worth fixing an old tv
now a days most people just buy a new one then instead of fixing the old one. Or you could find someone that fixes old tv's too. To find an old tv like the phiilps one we used to have you would probally need to go to an antique store or and a pawn shop or a secondhand store or a garage sale then. Or the dump because sometimes people put things in the dump like CRT tv's to get rid of them then.

As for the replacement remote, the Emerson support contact details can be found here:

http://www.emersonaudiovideo.com/support/contact.php

They should be able to sell you a replacement, alternatively you could buy a universal remote instead. It will probably be cheaper but make sure the remote comes with codes for Emerson TVs!

I'm trying to find a third-party supplier for the remote but it would help me if I knew your location. I will post another message if I can find a replacement.

Hope this helps. BElectric

Your not alone with this problem.
I had to fix mine. The warranty is less than impressive.
The trouble is going to be the Power Supply/Backlight Inverter board.
This is the picture of yours:
11e1946.jpg This is board # BA71F0F01042. Replacement boards are hard to come by.
Fixing the board like I did seem to be the only option. If you need info on fixing it, let me know.

2 year warranty

the Majority of problems on this and all other LCD TV's are capacitor problems the power pack needs smooth power to work correctly however the warranty should be valid and you need the proof that you bought it and you need to know who to contact about the 2 year warranty it may be Emerson you need to speak with not Walmart. I would contact them next(Emerson), or whom ever the third party repair service is that will cover the Warranty.

It sounds magnetised. Is there a magnet near that side... like a speaker?

It probably needs degaussed. Many TV shops have a device that does this, at a cost to you. Also, the set degauses itself for about a second when it's first turned on after being off for a while. So it may go away by itself eventually.

Hope that helps...
