That sounds very much like overheating...but if the fan is still running after the power off, it may be the projection light that needs replacing. I'm familiar with this because of scholl projectors!:) They can be a pain---especially replacing the light! Good luck!
And since the fan is still running, I would cross that off my list as the problem!:)
You said that picture comes on for 2-4 minutes, correct? Â That may mean a bad connection with the light. Â On second thought, it could be the loose connection with projector to light. Â Try that first before changing the light bulb altogether!
Sorry k, I may be wrong...this is not actually my area of expertise...I was spearking  from way way past experience.  This could be a whole new problem I 've never encountered.  It just sounded similar, that's all.

Hi,
It probably has a fault. But try this.Disconnect all speakers and inputs
and try again. If that works reconnect the speakers A PAIR AT a
Time. That should lead to the fault. If that still shuts down.
the set is going into protection mode. This is caused when ever one of
the many sections of the tv has a shorted circuit. The increase in
current is detected by the protection circuit and it flies into action
by turning OFF the ON relay.
Most often, but not always, it is either the high voltage section or
one of the deflection amplifiers. But can be the power supply, the
audio amplifier or voltage regulators, etc.
Goodluck..
