Hello - I have an actiontec GT704WGR router and I would like to set up the firewall so that I can VPN. With the firewall off, I can VPN with no problems but at any level of firewall, it does not work. Is there something I need to set up to allow the VPN to work and the firewall to be running? Thanks Ken
SOURCE: ActionTec not allowing RDP
There seems to be issues with RDP and VPN Routing with Actiontec Modems in that I can't get mine to work either unless I turn on DMZ hosting, and send all traffic to my Server.
Solution: Turn on DMZ Hosting and set the address to your desktop, warning, however, all traffic sent at your modem WILL be received by your computer, so make sure you have a good firewall installed.

I have the same problem with the Cisco VPN client, but when I turn the firewall off on the SBG900 it works fine.

Go to http://gateway.2wire.net and click on the firewall icon. Click on firewall settings and, if prompted, enter your system password to reach the advanced settings page. select the computer that will function as the VPN server. In the left column, select PPTP server. click on Add, then done. or try changing the IP scheme to the 172.16.0.0/255.255.0.0 or 10.0.0.0/255.255.0.0 schemes by accessing gateway.2wire.net, go to home network icon, then advanced settings. but if you manually configure or disable dhcp, be sure to write down the subnet mask & IP assigned to the 2wire then click on save. if all else fails, run it on DMZPlus mode, however this solution will allow all inbound traffic to the computer. if it still doesn't work on DMZPlus mode, the VPN is either using the same IP scheme, is using IPSec 50 or 51, or will not work with the 2Wire gateway.
