Ricoh Aficio 2018D - previously used a scan router software to scan to file on Windows server. Now being told Windows server 2008 is not compatible. We are using scan to email but very cumbersome. Is there a scan to file software that will help?

It is a problem with the network connection, if you are using scan router recheck the configuration settings in case of scan to email check connection with smtp server, port no. ssl on or off and do the connection test, check mail server authentication, rest assured it is not a problem with the machine or GW controller.

There are a few ways, such as configuring "SMB", "Scan to "Email" and/or installing "Scanrouter", but they are too involved to explain here.
The other is the "Network Twain Scanner" which, once installed, you can use a program such as "photoshop" , or many other photo editing softwares to scan. Simply open the program, click "file", "Import" and you should see the scanner as an option, make your settings, and go.
You can get the software here. Just select your operating system. It will need to be installed on each PC:

If the scanner has not been configured, or network settings have changed, the setup for scanning on this unit is unfortunately quite difficult for a novice. the manuals are readily available at Ricoh.com, under Downloads, but this will not help very much with the scanner config.

The document server portion of the copier not only has limitations to it but it has compatiblity problems with it as well when dealing with mulitiple pages. The SODIMM card could be set for 64mb on your copier and the buffer is too small to work with it. It doesn't work the same way as a fiery server does on todays copiers.

Ricoh tech support has told me there are three ways to use the scanner:

1) Scan to e-mail.
2) Scan to ftp server.
3) Scan to document server using a seperate PC as the server.
4) Scan to a local computer using Desktop Binder.

www.ricoh-usa.com has software to do 3 and 4. #1 can be setup by adding the smtp server to your copier in the file interface section by pressing the user tools/counter. You have to have the IP address to the smtp server in order to get it to work. You can contact your internet provider to get that.

Using the document on the copier is for temporary storage and isn't designed to handle big jobs to it as well. You can experience storage problems as well if your print server is full or you are storing faxes to the memory.

The memory can be updated to the copier as well. It can read a SO DIMM PC100 card up to 256 MB. It's an older memory module that they use on older notebook computers. You can get them at computer stores or get them through PNY.com.

Try adding the scanner's IP address in the scnhosts file in the TWAIN folder. Format is similar to the windows hosts file. You'll see a commented out sample entry, just modify that to suit your needs.

This may or may not work for you; we had it working under this configuration but then it stopped for no apparent reason. also note that scanrouter isn't supported under vista. Only advice I've been given so far is to revert to sending scans via SMTP - not ideal!
