Taking pictures without using the eye piece.

I have a canon EOS Rebel XS, can I take pictures using the display screen or do i have to use the eye piece? If so how do I accomplish that?

    if it is able to take pictures without the eye piece ..it should have in the menu a feature called preview..and have to be activated..in this way it will show on the display a preview of the future picture..if it doesn't have ..it means that is not capable of doing that ..and the display is just for viewing the picture after shooting them so ..Take a careful and patient look in the menu ...when the camera is on for takink pictures and not in the view mode....also look in the manual to see maybe you can locate the feature faster ..but it should not be hidden cause it is a prime choice ..it should be somewhere on the first hand..

The XS does not have the feature of using the display screen for composition/preview of images like the smaller compact digital cameras. You will have to use the eyepiece like a standard SLR.

Rebel XS was working fine... yesterday, all of a sudden, the LCD screen went blank and it displays 'busy' when trying to take a picture. Recharging the battery and replacing the sd card didn't change...

I just bought a new Canon EOS Rebel XS and can't figure out as to why I can't see the image in the LCD monitor while shooting, I have to look through the eye view to shoot.
When in P (Program) mode you can press the "SET" button and it will display the image on the LCD display.
