When you power up, turn the notebook so you can see if the cooling fan is running.

It sounds like the self protect shut down from over heating.

My Toshiba Satellite L745-S4235 Laptop runs slowly and freezes intermittently even though it has a 6gig ram and am sure I do not have a virus. When playing an audio or video file or when scrolling through...

Computer freezes is usually related to hardware, meaning the video card, random access memory (RAM), or another component may be underperforming. Software can also lead to a frozen computer, as can issues with drivers, the operating system, and malware; A virus or spyware infection on your computer might also be the source of freeze issues.all these things can stop a computer from working properly.
1.If the freeze happens every time a certain hardware device is plugged in or switched on, the device itself might be to blame. Check drivers update for the device, and download and install them to erase any bugs that might exist in your version. Similarly, if the freeze only happens when using one particular application, that program might also be the root cause.
2.Run the System Restore utility from the System Tools section of the Accessories folder on the Start menu to roll back Windows to a previous version of the registry. This will fix prior registry issues without affecting personal files and settings.

3.If your computer still keeps freezing up after you take the solutions above, I suggest you to download a software to deal with it. The choice is sure to be more effective and simple, but there are few free utilities for this issue. Windows Boot Genius is a excellent one if you wanna take this solution.

My Toshiba Satellite L305-S5875 always crashes on a cold boot.

Part of the problem is the hybernate function it causes windows to become unstable and eventually will corrupt the windows files making vista unusuable. I strongly suggest the hybernate mode be disabled and you make a backup recovery disc just in case windows crashes. By following what I have recommended and shut down windows when not in use will make a big difference in stability.

Laptop goes on some few minutes after being shut down.

you cannot blame windows xp because according to me it is such OS that it removes many problems of windows 7 and vista.windows 7 and vista makes your pc much slow and many features dont work but windows xp is free from these errors.actually you hear the sound but nothing appears on the screen.this is because your cpu fan is running which takes somes time to stop.may be some problem of the hardware especially the mainboard.go to any repair shop and just get it checked.

Toshiba Laptop - Startup freeze 40% of the time.

its a common thing for a vista based system to freeze after some updates , and my good advice to you is you better dont place too many applications on the startup , and avoid unwanted updating , ie8 is one such thing . if u have an option better switch to windows 7 , its really fast on notebook computers . install only defender updates from windows.

I have had two toshiba machines recently with Vista installed and they freeze-up of become eraticly slow on startup. Turns out they both had bad hard drives!

Vista does, however need 1Gb RAM to run ok.

Got a toshiba satellite laptop with windows vista basic loaded. bought a new lexmark printer , copier scanner not enough memory to load software

Thats why people are reverting back to windows xp because vista eats up root memory like anything. I'd suggest you to remove few games or useless files from your root directory and perform a cleanup of you root drive.

Satellite A305-S6883 freezing for no apparent reason

It's an overheating issue.

Sometimes you can fix it by updating the bios.

Make sure you do it while the laptop is really cooled off or else you could do serious damage.

You'll need to check Toshiba's support page for the latest bios for your model.

You should probably hook up a regular fan as well to keep the laptop cool for the time being.

If the bios upgrade doesn't work you'll need to open the laptop up, clean out the dust with some more air, and then I'd suggest cleaning / reapplying some Thermal compound to the Cpu and heat sink.

That should take care of the problem. If the fan still spins slow you might need to replace it.

Toshiba Satellite A85-107 PC

This could be due to a bad memory chip, or an overheating problem as the fan isn't working properly. First start by removing the service pack three, it has some issues and has been known to cause software conflicts. Service pack two is just fine. Then, if the problem persists, check to see if the fan is working and running in regular intervals, then the memory.

URGENT CALL:- Critical Error that keeps restarting system?

Definately not a "major issue"... it is a Software issue rather than a Hardware issue...
And most likely a conflict with your ActiveX controls...

Try This....
Go to Start...Programs......Windows Update..enable if disabled.. and it will search for updates and hopefully install the SP1 update...
This update download apparently has patches for the exact error you have and that is a typical Vista "hiccup" error....

try that, if it doesnt help still, we can go from there..
