I have the same problem in my 2000 bmw 740i with navigation. i bought the car and the radio didn't even turn on and the used car dealership told me they didn't know what the problem was but i found that the fuse for the radio wasn't plugged in and when i put it in the radio and everything worked (cd, tape, etc) however static was coming from the passenger side speaker and im wondering if its just a speaker problem or if its more serious. please if anyone has any incite email me as i don't check this site often at all. [email protected] any info would be a great help thanks again everyone.

2001 BMW 740iL. I cut a new key motor spins, lights come on, but engine will not start.

Question edited for clarity.
Question moved from MISC to BMW 740iL.

Does the new key have a transponder chip in it? Did you check? If it does, you need to reset the alarm and immobilizer, if not you need a proper key and not a Valet Key.

2001 BMW 740IL 2001 RADIO WONT STAY ON,WHY????

I have the same problem but after reading all kinds of post I've learned that there are a number of things that may effect the nav screen and the radio intermitten turning off after a few minutes.

1) is called the magic reset. Look up the procedure. I believe after the vehicle has been sitting and not run for a while, you need to take the negative terminal off. 20 seconds to a minute. Then re connect.

2) battery may be low. Test it or recharge it and see what happens. You may need a new battery.

3) Fuses

4) Failed Nav system or amplifier.

I'm going through mine tomorrow. See if any of the easy fixes work first.

I HAVE A 1998 BMW 740IL , MY WIFE TODAY GOT A BATTERY PUT IN TODAY NOW RADIO DOES NOT WORK.IVE HAD BATTERY OUT BEFORE AND NEVER HAD PROBLEMS ANY IDEAS MUCH APPERCATED

Could have blown a fuse, or someone could have messed with the radio, or it's wiring when the battery was off, activating a Delco-Lok anti theft system.

Excessive static equally on all chanels on cb

You should always connect the CB directly to the battery as the accessory socket is full of noise. You also should choose a better antenna as these small glass mounts cannot hear signals well and magnify local noise. AM (CBs) radios naturally pick up noise as it is the nature of AM signals. Use your squelch to lesson this but too much can knock out you reception.

I have a 2001 BMW X5 with a strange problem. I have only noticed this when it rains. The screen on the navigation device will go on and off at will. Also ,key on or off, you hear static in the speakers....

This is a common problem with all bmws - BMW refuses to acknowledge it but I have owned 3 and they all have this problem - The dealer blames it on the tinting (which in my car was all original from the factory) but they refuse to fix under warranty - Something about when the back window gets wet which also has the antannae in it will make almost no reception on the radio.

I have spoken to others with the exact same problem and my latest bmw 2003 is still experiencing this problem

2001 Ford Taurus Radio doesn't work but CD player does!

Does your car have an automatic raising and lowering antenna? If it does check your fuses for it. If not pull your radio out of the dash, and check to make sure that the antenna wire has not become lose or unplugged from the back.
