Gentlemen,
what are possible causes of the Blue Screen of Death ? as well as constant fragmentation of HD ?... Thanks for any hints !
There are indeed many naby causes for the BSOD, unfortunately... however it is usually a "Driver" issue, but not always. Often the Display Driver. What you need to do is, remove any thing attached, & try to boot into SAFE MODE,with networking, press F8 at bootup... and then, either,, try a System Restore, back to an earlier time when was OK. OR troubleshoot via the Msconfig, command. Start->Run->Msconfig (enter) This will bring up a set of tabs select startup tab and disable all. Try a restart, if it does, stay in safe mode, then re-enable them, , one by one until it hangs up... there is your problem. Remove/Update that software. If that doesn't work.. It may be a virus too.. do an extensive scan. Sometimes it is handy to run "Housecall" this is a very good online Virus scanner.

Entire books have been written about the infamous BSOD. Fragmentation of are hard drive is generally the result of a crowded HD.
How to help. Have you check your computer for viruses, spyware, etc. Several free programs exist as well as some online scanner.
I have used AVG before with no problem. Remember however that free software does not actively keep your computer clean. They,in effect, catch the virus after it is on your computer. Paid versions include real time scanning of you computer.
Spyware is different and ever present, cookies included. I have used Advance System Care, both the free and paid versions. This programs scans for spyware, registry problems, privacy issues, and cleans junk files. Another IOBIT product , Security 360, scans for trojans, and deep problems. Both have free as well as upgrades for their products. Additionally, each program has other components which can optimize your system, check and recommend security problems and defense, disk fragmentation.
Check also your HD properties. How much free space do you have? If you are less than 50%, you might add another HD. Besides storage for programs and data the HD is used by the CPU for a type of memory. Not enough space and it will slow your computer down and require the HD to fragment any new files added.
Good luck, hope this helps
