I used a tie down strap, I put one hook under the lip of the agatator on one side then the other hook 180 degrees opposite the first, grabbed both straps and lifted it right off the drive bell. Really easy. Good luck Don

Agator doesn't work

Is this a whirlpool washer? The agitator dogs need to be replaced. Remove top cap on agitator, then plastic cover inside it, then remove bolt, then pull agitator off. Top can separate from bottom by standing on bottom and pulling up on upper. Go to Repairclinic.com to find agitator dogs.

My washing machine leaves little spots/dots of rust on my clothes...help?

if this is a top loader, there is a seal that seals your agator shaft from water going down and oily grease from comming up. if you remove your agitater and have excessive play in your shaft you may need seals

Check to see if there is anything plugging the drain or if there is a kink in the drain hose.

Water leaking from under the tub from bottom side looking at it with the front panel removed , looks like when it agates it leaks out of a couple slits in shaft were it conects. bad seal? model A490 washer

Yes, and a very difficult job to acheive without an agitator removal puller. You've got to have some serious mechanical capabilities to perform the seal exchange. Best choice, a new machine, because by the time that seal wears out all other components cannot be far behind. Sorry, Good luck my friend, Dana

Maytag washer noise during wash cycle

Check for the tighten nut to agatator is tighten. If agatator is lose it floats up and down during the wash. There is a lock ring (rubber) on the shaft that holds the agatator on, check this, if off replace thid . If the agatator is still in good shape can still use it , if not pull of and replace it. This work is't hard to do.

Top half of agatator don't turn

Remove the agitator. Place it on the floor. Put your feet on the base and yank the top portion off. Replace these:

When spining it makes a gravel noise like there is dirt under the agatator and when the cycle has finished all bits of hard dirt have come out into the wash. How do l remove the agatator to clean under it?...

What type washer do you have? make? model?

Some agitator pull off, some are screwed down, some are bolted down, the bolts would be under the cap or fabric dispenser.

MAYTAG TOP LOAD WASHER MODEL PAVT244AWW, STRING FROM A CURTAIN IS CAUGHT IN THE AGITATOR. HOW DO I REMOVE AGGITATOR TO GET STRING OUT?

remove the fabric despenser from the top of the agatator, under the despenser is a 1/2 inch bolt, a ratche with a 6 inch extention works well, remove the bolt and the agatator will lift up off the transmission shaft

Kenmore washer 80 series 4 years old has prob

You may not have the coupling seated properly. However, if the unit is agitating and spinning at the same time, you may have a more serious transmission problem.
