You remove the drum/toner cartridge and run the blue tab on top back and forth several times then blow out the slot with canned air, while it's out you reach inside with a soft cloth and wipe the narrow window above where the drum sits, open the back door and shine a light inside to see if the lines are on the fuser roller, if there you will need a new fuser.

On Epson Artisan 800 the scanner leaves wide black stripes for the whole length of the paper. Printing From a file is OK.

If computer printing is fine (source) but scanner printing has problems, then of course, your problem is in the scanner. The only solution based on your info (which is good), are the lines in the same areas on other bad scanning prints? If so, your problem means that the scan-head has a connection problem leaving a 'black' send to the print buffer. This will require some technical repair replace or clean connection. Remember that this is a mechanical movement that not only records what it 'sees'e but at what X-Y location the read was 'seen'. It would be worth it to get an estimate from your local computer repair center give you an estimate.

Black stripe running down left side of paper when

Open the top of the fax where your documents go in. There will be a thin **** of glass where the document is read. On the end that reads "dirty" is a smudge or some white-out that needs to be cleaned. You may have to clean it with some cloth wrapped on a flat tool. Do not scrap or scratch anything, just clean enough to get the dirt off. Then make a test copy.

Re: Canon Pima MP500 Printer.Despite running cleaning settings for print head and rollers ectc,I am still getting a 1cm wide line of black ink through the length of the reverse side of printed pages....

On back side of printed paper?

It means that you have an ink in paper path, i would ques on registration roller (long black roller which you can see when you open the printer cover).

Try to print 20-30 white sheets or similar to get rid of stripes

Light lines down middle when printing black

try to clean the class of the machine, if its still there, this means the black drum is scratched since its fine with other colors, to test it very good open the document feeder(put it up) and hit start buttom(without putting anypaper on class), black paper will come out, check if the line there, if yeah, change the black drum.
let me know wat happen Regards

Dark strip down center of page when coping from tray

There is a small strip of glass on the left side directly under the edge of the scanner, About a half an inch wide. It has something on it.
May be very hard to see, use a strong glass cleaner or some alcohol and a regular piece of paper to clean it with.
