Canon Pixma MX850 won't scan - says 'set the pc to start scan'

I'm trying to scan from my Canon Pixma MX850

The message says 'set the pc to start scan'.
I saw this problem crop up in a previous posting and tried:

''open the MX Navigator in the Program Files >> Canon folder. when the Navigator is open, select Scan and then choose the type of scan you are doing.''

When I do this it says 'cannot communicate with scanner. Cable may be disconnected or scanner may be turned off. Check status. Scanner driver will be closed. 155.0.0.

I can print to it so I know it can communicate with the scanner.

Do you have more than one PC connected to the scanner? I have both a PC and a Mac connected to it, and I think my scanner is trying to connect to the Mac, which requires image capture software to be installed, rather than the PC. Don't know how to tell it to go to the PC, though...

Many machines allow network printing but not network scanning. I think you will find that the MX850 driver and MP Navigator software simply does not support network scanning. I suggest you query Canon directly.

Try Removing the printhead of your printer and putit back, and do the clean nozzles and printhead alignment.

Scanner stopped functioning

r u already try reinstall your driver?if not, try it 1st and see the result..i'm afraid the driver is damages....try to download from canon support website in order to get the updated one...hopes it will help ; )

Can't receive faxes directly to my PC using Canon Pixma MX850

If you did not install Fax Services within Windows it will not allow you to receive faxes unless your have other SW that came from the factory with your machine.

Can't find file where scan goes from Canon MX850

When you choose email or pdf you should be shown a file name of the file - search your computer for this file using Start>Search>For Files and Folders (XP) or Start>Search (Vista). When you locate the folder the files are in create a shortcut to it on your desktop. The obvious places to look would be in your My Documents folder or the Program Folder for the application (C:\Program Files\Canon?)
