My ipod is 120gb and has 2500 songs on it and it is nearly full. how can that be? it only has music on it and CD covers. I took it back to John Lewis where I bought it - they led me to believe it could hold up to 30,000 songs. The man in the shop said there was nothing wrong with my laptop or the ipod and he had never seen this problem before. Can you help? I have only 22 gb free on it.,

SOURCE: IPOD music list gray in ITUNES

This seems to be a common problem among certain users. Here is an explanation of why it occurs as well as a solution:

The songs displayed on the iPod "playlist" is merely a list, not a shortcut to the file. Basically, it is to show you what is on your iPod, and you cannot move the songs because you aren't manually syncing your iPod.

The solution to this is simple, as much of a pain as it might be: on the iPod screen, where the iPod's name is displayed as well as firmware version etc. there should be a box in the lower right hand corner that says "sync automatically". Once unchecked, you will be able to play and remove songs one by one, instead of iTunes combining them into a text list.

Hope this helps.

Delete songs from i pod touch 2nd generation

You must connect to the computer with iTunes. There you can select the music you want t delete.
For that wait till the iPod is backed up by iTunes, then on the left side click on the line with the name of your iPod. Then on top click on Music and then you see what music you can synchronise.
If you already did remove the original backups from the music on the iPad, there is a chance iTunes all remove all these numbers.

Apple has lots of info about every part you want to know about your iPod and iTunes.

Ipod 120 classic backs up only 231 songs

Sometimes it is easiest to start over. In the case of the popular iPod, clearing the hard drive is the easiest way to remove the files and restore the drive. The process is rather basic using the Apple iTunes software. Once your 120 GB iPod is restored, you can quickly sync all of your songs saved on your computer back onto the iPod. Properly complete the restoration process and enjoy your revitalized iPod.
Open the iTunes application on your computer. If you do not yet have the iTunes application, you can download it from Apple's website for free. From there you can easily download and install it. Open the folders on your computer which contain your saved music files and drag and drop them into iTunes. If prompted to convert to M4a, select "Convert." Connect your 120GB iPod to the computer using the provided USB cable. Click the "Restore" button on the main screen in iTunes, then click "Restore" a second time once prompted to initiate the restore process. Click the "Next" option, then "OK" once the restoration is complete. Your music will no longer be on your iPod, but will remain in your iTunes library. Click the "Sync" button on the bottom left side of the iTunes screen to sync the music library with the iPod.

I will try and make this as short as possible and hope you understand what I am asking. I just got an Ipod Classic last month and signed up with Itunes and then downloaded about 1300 songs from my cd...

You can't "backwards sync" (put music from your iPod back onto your computer) through iTunes. When you went to sync after you got your fixed computer back, I'm assuming iTunes tried to copy what was in iTunes (nothing) to your iPod, which probably is what caused these problems.

Assuming you still have the music on your iPod, I would recommend transferring the music from your iPod back to your computer (to a folder other than iTunes), restoring your iPod to factory settings, then moving all of the music files into iTunes and re-syncing your iPod.

There are two programs that are available to transfer songs from your iPod back onto your computer. The first is iDump and the second is YamiPod. I have found that iDump is the better of the two.
The link for iDump is:

Hope this helps!

I have had a rather disoncerting lw level buzzing

I had the same after about 15 months. It seems to happen when charging the iPOD. I took it back to John Lewis, it was returned to B&W and came back repaired 8 working days later. I was very pleased with the service. As an added bonus B&W restarted the 2 yr guarantee.
