99.90% bad batteries, some as old and 1 year old can fail.
if abused (means excessively deeply discharged over and over)

why wait, ever better why no own a spare good battery.
end the wondering...?

Check the connection for the battery. Make sure it's seated properly. Then reset the NVRAM.

The rechargeable battery needs to be replaced, the old one is just about exhausted. Go to www.ebay.com Type: make and model of laptop, refine search to battery, and I recommend sticking with new genuine.

Well, 8 years is an excellent life for any laptop battery. Being that old it will either be a nicad or nimh battery, both of which suffer from battery memory. There is very little you can do. Sometimes, charging the battery as much as possible, REMOVE IT FROM THE LAPTOP, put it into a plastic bag, seal it against moisture, and then put it into a freezer for 12 hours. Replace it into the laptop, charge it again, repeat twice more. If the battery has a bit of life in it you may be able to reclain SOME of it's capacity back. This is a last ditch effort, and should be carried out as a last option. That leaves either buying a new battery, this eBay link will take you to one

It's probably time to replace the whole laptop though.

u try one thing just shutdown laptop remove battery and charger from laptop then after push power button for 1 minute after that install battery and charger. but not start laptop and check that charging led of laptop is running if it's runnig then put in same condition for 3 to 4 hours after that start laptop using battery only after proper booting when os load attech the charger and check charging status.

Compal manufactured this computer and it was sold under many different manufacturers names.
To remove optical drive: Extract the two screws in the base that obviously attach to the drive. Remove cover from memory, roughly in centre of base, and you will see a screw that secures the drive. Remove the screw and the drive will slide out. Remove the bracket on rear of drive, attach to new drive and reverse above procedure. Memory is located under the said cover and also under the keyboard. Not too difficult to remove keyboard. Remove switch panel after removing screws in back of hinges. You will see several screws on rear of keyboard. Remove these (very small) and keyboard will swing upwards and out. Beware ribbon cable connector underneath as removing keyboard. You will then see second memory location. Max mem 1G
