Upgrade CPU on Matsonic MS8147C+

Unfortunately I think the Athlon XP is a 462 pin package and the MS8147C+ has a SocketA/Socket 462 socket for the CPU. The Athlon 64 3800+ is a 940 pin package and requires a AM2 socket, so this CPU will not physically fit.

DOES K7SOM MOTHERBOARD UPGRADABLE?

Hello here is the homepage:

http://www.ecs.com.tw/ECSWebSite/Downloads/Downloads_Driver_Detail.aspx?MenuID=61&LanID=0&detailid=79#Download-2

And the + versions:

http://www.ecs.com.tw/ECSWebSite/ECSSearch.aspx?menuid=0&lanid=0&keyword=K7SOM+

I would say no because the cpu does not exist anymore.

The only thing you can upgrade is the harddrive and the ram module.

The mainboard uses SDram and DDR ram in there own seperate block.
Sdram is hard to find and expensive.
DDRram can still be bought.

The specifications:

PROCESSORS

462 pin Socket A supports the AMD K7 processors
Full series of Athlon XP/Athlon/Duron processors
CHIPSET

SiS 740 & SiS 961/962 Chipset
SiS 740 Host/Memory controller with high quality 3D graphic accelerator

Integrated USB 2.0 host controller in SiS 962
LPC I/O -ITE8705F
LAN: MAC integrated in SiS 961/961B/962 and PHY on board
AC97 Audio Codec: Compliant with AC97 2.2 specification
SYSTEM BIOS

AMI 2MB Flash EEPROM
Supports Plug and Play 1.0A, AMP 1.2, Multi Boot, DMI
Support for ACPI revision 1.0 specification
MEMORY

2 DDR DIMM Sockets and 2 DIMM sockets support (can not be used simultaneously)
Two 184-pin 2.5V DDR SDRAM (DDR266/200) or
Two 168-pin 3.3V SDRAM (PC133/PC100)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_AMD_Athlon_XP_microprocessors

Maximum Front Side Bus support is 266Megahertz.
(Max FSB = 266MHz)

(Motherboard manual states 133MHz.
Note that AMD processors are 'Double-pumped'.
This = 266MHz )

Supports AMD Athlon, AMD Athlon XP, and AMD Duron, processors.

Note in the CPU Support chart where it states -
Socket 462 > AMD Athlon XP > 2600+ (.13u)
The .13u stands for 130nm core architecture technology.

(nm = NanoMeter.
1 Billionth of a Meter )

NOTE*

K133ASA via Apollo motherboard cpu upgrde

Socket A/462 can take any AMD K7 family processor. The fastest you could get would be the Athlon XP 3200 I believe, but that could also include the Athlon 1400 and the Duron 1800. So it looks like you can make a significant upgrade of yhe processor.

AMD Athlon MP 1.0G, 1.2G, 1500+, 1600+, 1800+, 1900+, 2000+, 2100+ (Palomino)
AMD Athlon MP 2000+, 2200+, 2400+, 2600+ (Thoroughbred)
AMD Athlon MP 2800+ (Barton)
AMD Athlon XP 1500+, 1600+, 1700+, 1800+, 1900+, 2000+, 2100+ (Palomino)
AMD Athlon XP 1600+, 1700+, 1800+, 1900+, 2000+, 2100+, 2200+, 2400+, 2600+, 2700+, 2800+ (Thoroughbred)
AMD Athlon XP 2500+, 2600+, 2800+, 3000+, 3200+ (Barton)
AMD Athlon XP 2000+, 2200+, 2400+ (Thorton)
AMD Sempron 2200+, 2300+, 2400+, 2500+, 2600+, 2800+ (Thoroughbred)
AMD Sempron 2200+, 2400+, 2500+, 2600+, 2800+ (Thorton)
AMD Sempron 3000+ (Barton)
AMD Duron 600, 650, 700, 750, 800, 850, 900, 950 (Spitfire)
AMD Duron 1.0G, 1.1G, 1.2G, 1.3G (Morgan)
AMD Duron 1.4G, 1.6G, 1.8G (Applebred)
You motherboard uses a "Socket A" CPU and therefore has limits to how high you can go.. I would recommend the XP 2200 or 2400+ as a good choice, but you can make your own choice.

K7VT2 with a AMD Duron 1.30 GHz CPU.

Depends on which AMD processor you would use. If Duron you could go to 1.8Ghz. If you use Athlon XP you could go to 3200+. Athlon MP 2.1Ghz and regular Athlon 1.4Ghz.
