so step one check for viruses and remove them. step two just forget about uninstalling that yahoo messenger and just go to yahoo website and install any version you want on top of the one that you have in your computer and that should fix the issue.
Please check that your firewall is blocking the messenger. If you donot have fire wall installed then its a virus or Spy ware is blocking else the messenger is corrupted. First check firewall settings.
