Compaq presario battery charging

maybe 6-8 hours. for sure overnight. If it does not charge fully in 12 hours, there is a problem. It might be the connection between the charger and motherboard if the laptop is old
.

Make it charge till it will not fully charge,
Or the battery life is over, dont use more old battery it can be burst...

Try this,
Remove battery and ac ADAPTER from the laptop
Press and Hold the power button for 40 sec(No battery and No Power chord)
Connect the battery back to laptop
turn on your computer,
Login to windows
check the battey backup
Connect the Adapter back and check the the battery life

there is a problem of your notebook not of battery yu need to contact compaq customer care they will resolve your queries quickly.

I would try replacing your ac/adaptor (power plug) before troubleshooting any further. It sounds as if the adaptor is faulty. Check eBay, you can get a replacement for less than 10 dollars.

If the battery, is more than a year old, it has reached its charging limit. Batteries usually last a year or on there charge cycle. If the system is within 1 yr of purchase you can contact compaq technical support to get it replaced.

you may try:
1) check the battery alarm at windows power managment, to set 5-10% alarm level.
2) discharge the battery to the empty then charge longer time, you need monitoring how long it charged (see charge lights change), need to change new one if charging time much less then before(less then 10-20 minutes)..
3) plug-in AC adapter monitoring charging current,
this step you need a current meter to make a series connection in the circuite, the battery is over life cycle if the current less then 500mA.

The problem is with the battery. All Lithium batteries last for around 1000 charges or so. Since the laptop is 2-years old the battery needs to be replaced.

Since your laptop is one year old, i guess you still have warranty on it. Your battery is bad and you need a new one. Go to the shop and request a new one by the warranty.

There were several recalls on Compaq's ac adapters and batteries that caused fire to units...

I would also check with compaq about your problem. They were replacing and repairing the units free of charge due to the defects. I would check with them
