Connect it to your computer via the USB cord. You can also get adapters which will allow you to charge it using a wall socket (AC power). The adapter plugs into the wall, and then you plug the Nano's USB cord into the adapter.

I have an ipod model a1199. i was wondering if you can use a newer ipod touch charger for it? and if not what kind of charger does it use?

Charge an iPod Nano Without a Charger
If you've misplaced or broken the charger that came with your iPod Nano, you might think you need to purchase a new one in order to continue using your Mp3 player.
However, there is a way that you can continue enjoying your iPod without having to purchase a new charger.
As long as you have a USB cord and a computer, you can charge your iPod without having the charger.

Locate the USB cord that came with your iPod Nano package.
It is the same cord that you use in order to sync or transfer music.
Plug the small end into your iPod Nano.

Plug the other, larger end into your computer's USB port.
Choose "Do Nothing" when your computer presents the dialogue box to let you choose what to do with the hardware or USB connection.
Leave your Nano plugged into your computer for at least 4 hours to charge.
Unplug your iPod Nano when charging is complete.
Charge an iPod Without the Charger
Many iPod owners purchase a charging unit that plugs into a standard wall outlet to recharge the iPod's battery.
However, the iPod wall charger is not included with new purchases, so consumers must either purchase a separate charger or find a way to charge their iPod using other means.
Here's a simple method to charge your iPod using your computer.

Plug the iPod USB cable into the bottom of your iPod.
Plug the other end of the iPod USB cable into a free USB port on your Mac or PC computer.

Open the iTunes program by clicking on the icon in the Dock on a Mac or using the Start menu on a PC.
Click on the name of your iPod under the "Devices" heading in the main iTunes window.
Click on the "Sync" button to synchronize your iPod with your computer data.
While the iPod is syncing, the power from the USB port on your computer will charge your iPod's battery.

Unplug your iPod from the computer once the battery is fully charged.

Ipod wont turn on

There are several reasons why your iPod Nano may not turn on or awake out of its "Sleep Mode." This can be extremely irritating if you wish to use your iPod Nano, but the device is constantly malfunctioning. You may not need to take your iPod Nano in to be repaired if the player doesn't turn on as normal. There are a variety of different fixes that you can attempt as a way to get the Nano to turn on.
Flip the iPod Nano's "Hold" switch to "OFF." The iPod Nano cannot be turn on if the switch is set to "ON." Reset the iPod Nano. Move the "Hold" switch to "ON" and then "OFF." Then, press down the "Select" and "Menu" buttons on the Nano. Hold those buttons for about eight seconds. The Apple logo will then become visible on the iPod Nano. Once this occurs, try turning the iPod Nano on once again. Connect the iPod Nano to an iPod charger or a computer that is turned on via the iPod Nano's USB cord. Charge the Nano for at least 30 minutes. Then, try to turn the Nano on. Update the iPod Nano's software. Connect the Nano to your computer via the player's USB cable. Open iTunes, and click the iPod Nano's name on the left part of iTunes. Click the "Summary" option at the top of iTunes. Then, click on the "Check for Updates" button that's positioned in the middle of iTunes. Follow the instructions that appear inside iTunes in order to install the updates on the Nano. Hope this helps.

Won't turn on

Is your iPod fully charged? Sometimes the batteries become so depleted of charge that an accessory charger won't turn it on.

-Try plugging it in to your computer or a wall charger for a while, time will vary but it may turn on.

-If it is not turning on your computer will never recognize it, thus you won't be able to do a restore with iTunes.

-Try a hard restart as well this could help you.

Don't know how to reject the ipod nano when charging at computer

  1. Once the iPod is attached to the iPod and USB port in the computer, an icon will appear at the bottom of the computer desktop. The icon is from removing the USB Mass Storage Device
  2. Now, click on the enject icon and it will show which drive the USB cord is attached to. Once the icon is clicked on, the iPod will show an arrow going down and reading "OK to disconnect". Once able to disconnect, the USB cord can be removed from iPod.
  3. Another way to eject the iPod from USB cord is through iTunes. Once anything you want sync'd to your iPod is complete, a message will appear on the iPod reading, "OK to disconnect". Just like it did on the ejecting icon on your desktop.

2GB nano wont charge

Check this first. Both computers have USB2. Both computers are awake. iPods will not charge from USB1 or when the computer is asleep. Check the computers and cord is ok by plugging in another iPod. If the iPod is still under warranty, Apple will replace it.

Does not charge

Well, it sounds as though your battery is shot. However, before completely giving up i would restore the ipod in itunes and then let it fully charge. After it says "fully" charged, disconnect and test. if it still has no charge, reset it by holding down both the menu and center buttons until you see an apple appear on the screen. If after these steps it still does not charge i would check into getting a new battery either through iPodbatterydepot.com or by calling apple tech support at 1-800-APL-CARE (1-800-275-2273) Good luck
