Unplug the power from your cable modem. Turn off your computer. Make sure there is a network or usb cable connected to the computer from your cable modem and they are connected properly at both ends (if usb use the back ports on the computer).
Plug the power back into the cable modem and wait 1 minute. Turn on your computer. Check connectivity by trying the Internet.
If you still do not have connectivity, try these things in this order:
1. Update the drivers for your network card through your computer/motherboards manufactuar website.
2. Replace the network or usb cable and try again.
3. Contact your cable provider to make sure they can see your cable modem on the network.
If you need to connect via PPPOE, usually this only applies to some DSL clients. It is reccomended to use the install disk that came with your modem so you can set up your username and password correctly to connect. If you need additional information on this, contact your ISP for configurations.
Have fun.
