Have presario 6000. Would not boot but received message that new keyboard needed. Purchased "universal" aftermarket keyboard. New message "Hard drive failure imminent" and still would not boot to allow for saving data. Does this sound more like a keyboard issue or a true hard drive issue?

Hi,
Prepare to Diagnose the Computer
Perform the following actions to prepare the computer for troubleshooting a startup problem.

1. Remove the battery and AC adapter from the notebook.
2.Remove any optical disks (CD or DVD), and disconnect any external devices or peripherals such as USB devices, printers, docking stations etc.
3.Plug the AC adapter directly into a functioning wall socket.
4.Press the Power button to turn on the computer.

NOTE:After the battery, optical media and peripherals are removed, the Notebook PC may startup normally. If this occurs see Windows starts after the battery, optical media and peripherals are removed .

Symptoms and Resolutions
When the notebook stops responding or displays an error message, let me know what symptom that most closely resembles what is seen on the Notebook PC screen.

* Screen is blank with no cursor or text
*An error message is displayed on a black background
*An error message is displayed on a blue background
*PC stops responding on a red Compaq or blue HP logo screen
*PC Stops responding on the Windows logo screen
* The Microsoft Windows 'Advanced Options Menu' is displayed
* PC stops responding with a blinking cursor is displayed in the upper left corner of a black screen.
*Password is requested but password is forgotten or lost.
*Microsoft Windows starts, but a 'serious error' message is displayed that prompts you to send an error report to Microsoft for evaluation.
* Microsoft Windows starts , but the PC stops responding or restarts automatically
*Display is very dim during and after startup
*Microsoft Windows starts, but runs abnormally slow

NTLDR compressed on a Compaq Presario SR105CL cant enter bios to set to boot

Step 1:
Which operating system ?

Computer is booting from a non-bootable source. Computer hard disk drive is not properly setup in BIOS. Corrupt NTLDR and NTDETECT.COM file. Misconfiguration with the boot.ini file. Attempting to upgrade from a Windows 95, 98, or ME computer that is using FAT.32 New hard disk drive being added. Corrupt boot sector / master boot record. Seriously corrupted version of Windows 2000 or Windows XP. Loose or Faulty IDE/EIDE hard disk drive cable. Failing to enable USB keyboard support in the BIOS. Many times this error is caused when the computer is attempting to boot from a non-bootable floppy disk or CD ROM First verify that no Floppy Diskette or CD is in the computer, unless you are attempting to boot from a diskette. b> Note: This error has also been known to occur when a memory stick is in a card reader and the computer is attempting to boot from it. If you have any card reader or flash reader make sure that no memory stick is inside the computer. Additionally disconnect all USB drives, cameras, ipods, iphones, etc. from the computer. If you are attempting to BOOT from a floppy diskette and are receiving this error message it is likely that the diskette does not have all the necessary files or is corrupt. If you are attempting to install Windows XP or Windows 2000 and are receiving this error message as the computer is booting verify that your computer BIOS has the proper boot settings. For example, if you are attempting to run the install from the CD-ROM make sure the CD-ROM is the first boot device, and not the hard disk drive. Second, when the computer is booting you should receive the below prompt. Press any key to boot from the CD

Inpect the computers preexisting operating systems to ascertain compartibility to windows XP. Only XP computers would recognise XP operatign systems. Attemptign to install windows XP onto alternate system either windows 98, 2000, mellanuim or Vista XP or 7 is least achieveable unless the old system were erased or new empty storage disk drive were acquired and replaced.

The problem with my microsoft 6000 v2.0 keyboard is this. I have changed batteries (4x with brand new), the light on keyboard comes on, then after about a minute, the light goes off and keyboard does not...

Not to sound patronizing, did you push the buttons in the order it requires you to? The sequesnce and timing is important. Also, the keyboard and mouse have to be pretty close to the receiver, and the receiver need to be almost completely in a direct visual line with the devices on these MS keyboard desktop sets. I had a lot of trouble with mine until I put the receiver within 1-1/2 to 2 feet of the keyboard and mouse. Next time buy a logitech top-of-the-line set and you will not have this kind of trouble. I no longer have trouble with my 6000 desktop set, though, just in case you are wondering. I use the Logitech set on my newer computer and the 6000 on the XP .
Hope this helps.

My Dell Inspiron 6000 won't boot up. It keeps

Hi:
The DST error code 1000-1046 is definitely a failing hard drive. ..I am not sure why your laptop is not recognizing a CD in the drive, but you should go into your BIOS settings, and in boot sequence, make sure that the CD drive is the first boot device. If you can't boot from a CD, you are not going to get very far with installing a new hard drive...

DELL Inspiron disk failure how to recover OS in new hard disk?

Hello,

Unfortunately you will need the restore disk to correct this problem. Even if you copy the old disk to the new, chances are you will copy the corrupt files and have TWO bad copies of xp. You can order the restore disk from Dell on average about $30.

Good Luck

Have you activated the wireless connection between the keyboard and the reciever. if this is not done then it wont work. There should be a button on the keyboard that you must hold down so that the signal can be recognized at the reciever end. Try it and see....if this is no good then you need another wireless keyboard setup!!!
