  1. try reconfigure memory card save block (not the game save) I play 5 game profiles & cards used with Grand Turismo 3&4 (2 cards auto-start & 3 cards don't! = 4 sony & 1 mad cats)
  2. CLEAN YOUR LENS! My SCPH-30001 PS2 IS 10years Old & I clean Both sides of my Lens VERY CAREFULLY ! every 2yrs. & it still works great!

SOURCE: My PS2 will not play PS2 games, but it will play PS1 games

Hi
If it will play DVD's this is a good sign. You will only need to clean the lens of the laser. Also clean the hub that the Disc rides on.
I hope your in the right posting area, this is for the Phat PS2 consoles with the drawer that comes out to put the CD in. Procedure is different for Slim PS2.

  1. Disconnect power and turn the case upside down.
  2. Remove the screw covers to expose the case screws. These are little square pieces or square rubber pads. You can use a thin knife blade to pry the hard plastic squares up.
  3. Remove all the screws.
  4. REmove the Warranty sticker to the right edge of the power socket.
  5. Turn the PS2 over to set it right side up.
  6. lift the top cover from the back and pull it forward slightly to clear the CD tray. Be careful of a possibly Ribbon cable attached to the lid going to the REset/Eject buttons. Roll the cover over to the right leaving the ribbon intact.
  7. Remove the Cd tray lid.
  8. Polish the Laser lens, and remove any lint or hair from the Cd area. Use Alcohol and cotton swabs to clean the laser lens. By the way, Alcohol will damage a PS2 Slim lens. All lens are not created equally.
  9. Hook up the power and A/v Cables.
  10. REmove the little white disc from the Cd tray lid.
  11. Place a Disc on the spindle, and cap the disc with the little white piece that you removed from the CD tray cover.
  12. Boot up the PS2 and test it, Continue cleaning until you get it to work.
  13. Put it back together, and your in business.
If you have trouble you can send your PS2 to the Playstation Clinic for Repair. Contact [email protected]

SOURCE: PS2 reads ps1 games but not ps2. Clicking noise

Hi Jstpd,

Boot up your PS2 with no disc in it. Press the Traingle and highlight the top selection. Press the triangle again and then press X then select ON and press X. This should turn on Diagnostics. Do not reboot the PS2, just put a PS2 disc in. This might get it reading PS2 discs again.
If this does work you can follow the procedure for cleaning below:

  13. Do not adjust the white gear at the top of the Laser tray. This is a critical setting that may mess up everything.
  14. Put it back together, and you’re in business.

SOURCE: My ps3 quit playing ps3 games. It would play ps2

you had a software error, when you reset the system it re installed all the software. you got lucky had one that did that i reformated the hdd and still nothing put a disc in and it would just continuosly read the disc and nothing would ever come of it. the first set of PS3's had inferier blue ray drives and they tend to crash on the hardware end. if this happens sony has a refurb program for $150 you can send yours in and get another back that is refurbed...

SOURCE: A silver slim ps2 is unable to play certain games

Okay, are you using the original PS2? If you are then it more then likely is the age of the console. The original PS2 console actually can't play some of the games that were made after the PS2 slim was released. If your using the slim than the only thing i can advise is to try using a laser lens cleaner disc and see if that helps :)

I live in South Africa and bought a PS3 Baseball game. It works in my PS2 but not in the PS3, because of the zone code. What is the correct zone code

I assume you bought a PS2 game that works on your PS2 system but not on your PS3 system since a PS3 game will never work on a PS2.

Since not all PS3 systems can play PS2 games, you need to first check the model number of your PS3 system. If you look at the back of your PS3, there should be a serial number somewhere that starts with "CECH", followed by one more letter and a couple numbers (e.g. "CECHC02"). Unless the model number starts with "CECHA", "CECHB", "CECHC", or "CECHE", you won't be able to play PS2 games on your PS3.

If your PS3 can play PS2 games, then you need to make sure that the region of the PS2 game matches the region of your PS3. The region of the PS2 game can be found in the upper-right corner of the front of the box the game came in. The four regions are: "NTSC U/C", "NTSC J", "NTSC C", and "PAL".

Once you know the model number of the PS3 and the region of the PS2 game, you can tell if the PS2 game should work on the PS3. Use the following chart to determine if your game and system are compatible:

Last two digits of your PS3 model number: Playable PS2 game region
00: NTSC J
01: NTSC U/C
02: PAL
03: PAL
04: PAL
05: NTSC J
06: NTSC J
07: NTSC J
08: PAL
09: NTSC C
11: NTSC U/C
12: NTSC J

How do you play ps2 games on a ps3

kevin123422

To be able to play PS2 games on your PS3 you have to have a system that supports this option. Not all PS3s will play PS2 games.

Let me know the model of you PS3 and I can tell you if your system support playing PS2 games. If it does then they would load link normal games. If not then you have a problem with the system.

PS3 WONT PLAY PS2 GAMES

davehilto172

Only certain models of PS3's will play PS2 games. If you let me know the model number on your system I can look to see if yours will play PS2 games.

If you have played PS2 games before on this system let me know this as well.

Ps3 not reading any disc

what you have to do is turn it on and go on to settings. then format the system and wait for it to reset then start it up again and try it. (back up your info first!)
if that doesnt work ring sony and state the problem they should send you a new or refurbished ps3. but you'll need it in warrenty.

Usa to uk

I have one in the uk, some blue ray discs are region encoded (some work some don't). Uk DVD's don't work and neither do old uk playstation 1 or 2 games. However all PS3 games are region free and work fine.
