Frigidaire Front loading washer error codes E41 and E20

I wash doing was and the machine first gave me the error code of E20 and their was water in the bottom of the basin. We cleaned out the water lines but still could not get the washer to start. It just sounds like the gears or something is not catching to spin the washer. I unplugged the washer and then try to start it again but this time I got the error code of E41. Can any one help with this?

I washed an area rug and the washer would not drain from the wash cycle. E20 code appeared. Water was left in in the bottom of the basin. I stopped the machine and tried to drain/spin. I just hear a grinding noise - nothing happening on all settings. All lights are on and door is locked when I set any setting on the washer. I have checked my water lines, screens, and drain hose - all clear.

  • c62ap May 13, 2008

We have the same problem. We got the exact same sequence of codes. We have the code E41. How do you remove the door lock assembly?

  • Anonymous Jun 18, 2008

Water in bottom of shell, error code E20, got out my level-washer was not level, lowered feet, rechecked with level=no problem. Hooray! Then today, things are going along fine when, error code E20 comes up, again-this is after it sucessfully washed and drained two loads. I am very cautious as to NOT overload our washing machine with clothes or rugs etc,. Checked washer to see if perhaps it was again uneven-nope-perfectly level-WTF?! This washer is less than 3 months out of warranty (Murphey is up to no good again)...any ideas other than making it a large planter in my yard?

Water will not drain and E 20 is flashing.

If your machine is stuck on the drain sequence or you read error code E20, the filter basket is probably clogged:
You will need a pair of slip-joint pliers and a Phillips head screwdriver.
Before beginning any work, make sure to unplug the machine from the electrical outlet.
**Note: It may be easier to perform this task with the washer lying on its side; therefore it may be necessary to disconnect the water lines from the machine.
1: Take off the front kick plate (two screws at the bottom of the machine).
3: There is a black accordion hose with two clamps.
2: Have a towel ready to catch the water that leaks.
4: Remove the clamps at each end to access the filter basket.
5: Stick your hand inside the hose and remove the plastic filter basket (it will probably be clogged with hair, lint, fabric).
6: Thoroughly clean the filter basket and remove all debris from the inside of the black accordion hose.
7: Replace the filter basket.
8: Reattach the black accordion hose at both ends.
9: Secure the clamps at each end of the hose.
10: Wipe up any water that may have spilled inside the machine.
11: Reattach the front kick plate with the two screws removed earlier.
12: Reconnect all hoses before plugging in the machine to the electrical outlet.
** This took me about 30 minutes from start to finish.

solution from dtgray was absolutely perfect (for me anyway). it is a tough chore to get in there and work the clamps but with persistence i got the them off, cleaned the filter basket (coins, nails, dog hair!) the machine is working again now. my complaint is directed at Frigidaire. seeing that the filter basket clogging seems to be a problem for many, they should have designed the machine for easier access for routine maintenance. thanks again dtgray. you saved me major $$ as the repair guy was gonna charge me $100 minimum just to come out to my house.

  • V-Money Feb 26, 2011

dtgray2430, you are a life saver!!! Your solution and steps were perfect. If you tilt the washer to access the opening on the bottom, tilt washer on its right side. The clamps were definitely a challenge (both taking them off and on), but putting everything back with the clamps was worse. Cleaning out the black accordian, I found a tube sock, 2 metal wires, a small spring, and $1.25. I also suffered the 2 cuts that everone seems to manage. It worked, and my wife was never happier to do laundry.

  • Chentwinks Jun 12, 2011

Awesome! I found pillow stuffing and... You know those all-in-one washer/dryer sheets that have detergent built in? Yep, that's what I found! So those go right in the trash! I was most nervous about reattaching the hoses. I'm afraid i didn't get them on right... But we'll see. Took me about an hour, with the help of my son, and I didn't cut my hands at all. Thanks so much for the instructions.

  • pipsquack Jul 28, 2011

Thank you so much for the great tips, Dtgray!!! Wow - I also got a $1.25 out of it, a lot of crud, my missing house key.... and no cuts for me! I cheated, however, and only took off the clamp to the accordian. I have little fingers, so I donned my surgical gloves, and extracted the crud! Thanks again!!!

  • Anonymous Oct 23, 2011

dtgray2430 saved my machine. I was ready to buy a new washer but decided to check online for some advice first. My error code was 21 and clumsychris had exactly the same problem, different code. I am now $2.34 richer and found out where the underwires to my bras have been going. Thanks for the perfect solution!

This error is caused by a clogged drain filter located under the drum assembly.

The advice on this problem is dead on...access the the drain filter (black plunger looking like piece) where the drain hose exits the unit at the bottom of the machine...there is a hole in the bottom, no need to take off the back...turn unit on it's side...clamp with one screw that seals the gasket/plunger piece requires patience to re-attach but it was a very simple process...took about an hour from beginning to end...well worth doing on your own!!!

The solution to the above was dead on. Even down to the two cuts. One additional thing you should do is there is a plastic lint trap up inside the black hose which with a little of patience you can get out and clean it well.
Thanks for saving me the service call.

Excellent Advice!!! Thank you... My unit has a removable kick plate in the front. two screws and a tilted back unit and I am now $2.19 richer and an old sock too! Thank you for saving the repair call!

  • Anonymous Jul 10, 2010

I just finished and it wasn't horrible. Definitely remove the front kick cover for the best access. I laid the unit on it's side. A good set of common pliers work best on the clamps.

Everything worked great. I noticed the whole botoom of washer was rusted and rotted, there must have been an existing leak. When I re-installed the black accordian piece, the large mouth with the screw on clamp is now leaking. any advice, new clamp maybe?

SOURCE: Frigidaire Front loading washer error codes E41 and E20

Hi
E20 is a drainage error. If there is water in the drum make sure the discharge pipe at the back of the machine is not kinked or blocked. You should also check the pump filter is not clogged - this is behind the front panel underneath the drum at the front of the machine.

E41 = Control board thinks the door switch is open. This points towards a faulty door switch on the machine.

Hope this helps. Please remember to rate my answer. Many thanks.

E20 Error

Hello Diane Snow, thank you for your inquiry!

I understand that your Frigidaire washer is displaying "E20" error code. The "E20" error code means water is not pumping out fast enough. First, you want to check the hoses for restrictions.

If the hoses are not restricted it could be an issue with the drain pump or control board. I would suggest seeking assistance from a professional technician for proper repair. I hope this is helpful. -Matt

Frigidaire front load washer (ATF6000SF1) error E20

E20 is not an exact error code. It's indicating a possible pump out problem. Here is a few possible causes of an E20 error code:

1. Restriction in the drain pump

2. Failed pump

3. Water not pumping out fast enough (crimped drain hose)

4. Too many suds ( too much detergent or wrong kind)

5. Pressure switch (not communicating with control board)

6. Loose wire at pressure switch

7. Loose wire at pump or control board

8. Failed control board

My washing maching is reading E20 and it is not washing. it seems to stop after a few minutes of washing and then it will read E20 and just continuosly beep

Hello.

Frigidaire front-loading washing machines have an electronic control panel where the wash cycle and any other wash options are selected, and the wash cycle is initiated and stopped, if necessary. The control panel also has indicator lights that show the washer status and will display an error code if there are issues with the washer. The "E20" error code indicates a possible pump problem.

Blocked Pump

One of the primary reasons why there may be an "E20" error code on a Frigidaire front-loading washing machine is if there is something blocking the pump. Disconnect the washing machine from the power and release the clips on each side to remove the front access panel. Set a container under the pump drain, which is located on the lower right side of the washing machine. Open the pump drain plug and allow it to drain. Clean out any debris that might be causing the obstruction, then close the drain plug. Close the access panel and restore power to the washer.

Drain Hose

If the drain hose is blocked or crimped, the water may not pump out fast enough, causing the pump error to appear on the display. Straighten out the drain hose in the rear of the washing machine and move it away from the washer if it's trapped between the wall and the washing machine.

Oversudsing

If too much detergent--or the wrong kind of detergent--is used in the washing machine, too many suds may result. This can overwhelm the drain and pump system, resulting in the error. Use only high efficiency (HE) laundry detergent with Frigidaire washing machines and follow specific instructions on the laundry container for the recommended amount of detergent. Run a drain cycle if there are excess suds in the washer to clear out the system.

Pressure Switch or Control Boar

The pressure switch may not be communicating properly with the control board, which can cause the E20 error to occur. The other possibility for the E20 error code is if the control board has failed entirely. Try to reset the washing machine by pressing "Stop/Cancel" and disconnecting the washing machine power cord. Wait 30 seconds, then restore power. Make a new cycle selection and press "Start" to see if the error code returns. If it does, turn off the washing machine and contact Frigidaire for repair.

Thanks.

Hello, welcome to FixYa. I understand you have a Frigidaire washer with an error code E41, correct ? Can you reply and include the complete model number ? This will let me speak specifically about your washer instead of generalizing...which can be fine, but specifics are always better. I'll watch for your reply and go from there. Thank you. I have a Kenmore Elite washer, model 44092. The machine won't spin and the error code is E20. What is wrong with it?

The machine, based on the error code, is made by Frigidaire for Kenmore. Error code E20 pertains to a slow or no drain problem which can be due to a clogged/kinked drain hose, blocked drain filter/coin trap, or a broken drain pump. E20 ERROR CODE

Plug off the mains. First drain out all your water by lowering the exit hose into a bucket or drain. You have to look for screws below the front kick-panel, the panel comes down & out. The pump is on the right side. Be prepared for dirty water. Inside the big flexible tube (coming from the tub bottom) is the filter, be prepared to find all sorts of junk here, clean out. Examine your pump also, clean out the impeller. Carefully refit all. Your machine would be fine. Don’t wait for the machine to jam to look into your filter.
