The power button is blue but no image appears when
The power button is blue, but no image appears when the computer is booted. Another monitor works when attached to the computer. I have tried unplugging the monitor and the computer - and re-plugging the system and rebooting the computer with all cables reattached.
guess you missed my statement that both monitors work fine with both cables from computer to monitors and only one monitor works with all speaker bar conn,'s (short cable) from bottom of monitor to spk'r bar. It's not a capacitor prob. The video is all stable. Just audio out of monitor is not there on one monitor.guess you missed my statement that both monitors work fine with both cables from computer to monitors and only one monitor works with all speaker bar conn,'s (short cable) from bottom of monitor to spk'r bar. Re: The power button is blue but no image appears when
Yes it seems that you have the classic caps failure with you r monitor.
Have a look at the photos on http://s807.photobucket.com/albums/yy352/budm/Gateway%20FPD2185/
That shows the caps, dismantle the case, inside you will find a metal box behind the screen, in this box is several Printed circuit boards. The one that goes bad is the one with the power cord connection. Remove it , for the capacitors are on the other side (down side) of this board. Examine the tops of the caps for dome shaped metal on the top of them, if any of them are, replace all 8 with 470uF 25 volt high temp capacitors.470uF 25V High Temp Radial Capacitor $0.52EA (1-9)
There are other capacitors on the board, give them a close look to or anything that lookslike it got hot.
The parts can be found online, I got mine at http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?Partnumber=020-1736%20%20%20%20%20%20%20&FTR=470uf%2025v%20high%20temp&CFID=21539923&CFTOKEN=76263163

This worked for me. Replaced all 8 caps with ones sourced from the link above. Thanks, Sprint_6! I just ordered these as I picked up one of these on Craigs List for free... 4 had domed heads those there toast, I'll replace the lot... the case is a bit of SOB to crack, I accidentally cracked the PCB that holds the power on/off I should be able to repair the track.. it split so fast I had no idea it was connected so tightly.. if anyone strips this monitor take care with the power switch board on the front panel (which comes off) with the weight of the TFT it pulled against this (Small connector) and tore a little but this is low voltage so should be fineI just ordered these as I picked up one of these on Craigs List for free... 4 had domed heads those there toast, I'll replace the lot... the case is a bit of SOB to crack, I accidentally cracked the PCB that holds the power on/off I should be able to repair the track.. it split so fast I had no idea it was connected so tightly.. if anyone strips this monitor take care with the power switch board on the front panel (which comes off) with the weight of the TFT it pulled against this (Small connector) and tore a little but this is low voltage so should be fine

Disconnect it from computer and power. wait 15 minutes and plug only the power back in, press the power on button. The monitor may display a message that there is no signal or something like that. If that happens the problem is either the cable or the computer. If you get no message then look for the menu button and press it to see if any thing appears. If not find the manual on line and read it. Many times monitors get over-driven by computers to the point that they can't display OR they self destruct.
OR
Another way is to just unplug everything computer and monitor for 15 minutes. Plug in monitor first then plug in computer and press the power button, the display should display the booting information if the cable is good and the monitor is good.
Please restart your computer and tap the F8 key as soon as you see something on the screen. You should get the advanced boot menu. Select Safe Mode from the list.
Let me know if you were able to boot to safe mode.
The first one is the "out of range" issue. This means you are trying to display a screen resolution that is too high or too low and your monitor cannot display any image. Reboot your computer with another monitor or into safe boot mode and change the resolution to an industry standard (800x600 / 1024x786) and then see if your monitor will display the image. Once you can see the image on your monitor, you can make adjustments and it will automatically revert back if you cannot see the new display settings.
Update your video graphics card drivers to get the best possible resolution.
As for the buttons on the front of the monitor not working, this may be caused by the "out of range" issue above. It could also indicate that your monitor may be going bad. Try the above steps - if you get no image from the monitor, try moving the monitor to another known good computer and see if the button functionality works after it displays an image.
Does the monitor show absolutely nothing, not even when first turned on? In that case maybe the cable could be defective or connected improperly, or the new computer might not be compatible (or set to output to, say, digital port, while you've got a SVGA monitor). In that case you'll need to connect a working monitor for the time required to reconfigure the computer.
If the image does appears at boot, or resetting the computer, and then disappears, it could be that the new computer is set to a resolution which is too high for the monitor, which goes in protection mode and effectively turns off. Again you'll have to gain access to the computer (maybe booting in Safe Mode) and lower its video resolution to something the monitor can handle.
Hi there,
Symptom : No images on the screen. I cannot turn on the monitor.
Checklist 1 : Is the power cord connecte properly.
Action : Check the power cord connection and supply.
Checklist 2 : Can you see "Check Signal Cable" on the screen ?
Action : (Connected using the D-sub cable)
Check the signal cable connection.
Checklist 3 : If the power is on, reboot the computer to see the initial screen (login screen), which can be seen.
Action : If the initial screen( the login screen) appears, boot the computer in the applicable mode (the safe mode for Windows ME/XP?2000) and then change the frequency of the video card.
Note : If the initial screen does not appear, contact the Service Center or your dealer.
Checklist 4 : Can you see "Not OPtimum Mode", "Recommended Mode 1440 X 900 60 Hz" on the screen.
Action : You can see this message when the signal from the video card exceeds the maximum resolution and frequency that the monitor can handle properly.
Adjust the maximum resolution and frequency that the monitor can handle properly.
Checklist 5 : There is no image on the screen. Is the power indicator on the monitor blinking at 1 second intervals ?
Action : The monitor is in Powersafe mode.
Press a key on the keyboard activate the monitor and restore the image on the screen.
If there is still no image on the screen, press the On button. Then press any key on the keyboard again to activate the monitor and restore the image on the screen.
First you'll have to power off the system.
Please power on the system and as soon as you see the Dell logo please tap the F2 button 3 - 4 times.
The computer will go to the system setup. Check if the screen goes blank here.
If the screen stays on then try this.
1. Please power off the system.
2. Please power on the system and as soon as you see the Dell logo please tap the F8 button 3 - 4 times. You'll reach the Windows Advanced Boot Options Menu on the screen.
3.Select Safe mode with Networking.
4. Select Administrator at the log in screen.
5. Warning dialog box with the message Windows is running in safe mode. appears. Click the Yes button.
6. The desktop appears with the words Safe Mode appearing in all four corners.
7. Uninstall the video drivers and restart the computer.
8. Resintall the video drivers.
I didn't have the monitor connected to the computer, and that's why the power button was unresponsive. After connecting it, the solution above worked for me.(My KVM switch was set to a computer that was turned off)
