Possible frame output fault on Sony PFM 42 V1 plasma display

Two line stable, compressed frames appear one above the other on the screen exactly dividing the screen in two. What board do you think the fault is on?

    Thanks for the response.

When I feed in a VGA signal from my laptop the panel displays two pictures the same, one above the other, as if the screen was split horizontally.

I did not check to see how the menu displayed and will check later today.

    The color remained OK.

I only ran it for a few minutes but the picture remained during that time.

I will connect it up again today and take a digital picture of the screen and send it to you later.

    Kind Regards,

    John

    Hi again Sai,

I set up the plasma display, this time with the back off, and noticed that a 47 micro farad electrolytic cap was venting on board ZSUS. (C16)

Is ZSUS the board that you suspected?

Anyway, I shut the whole thing off in case the failure of this capacitor took out something else.

I've ordered a replacement cap and hope that this does the trick. If not I will re-list and ask for you.

In the meantime I will accept your response.

    Thanks and Regards,

    John

This sounds like a fault with the sustain boards. Can you provide me an image of the tv when the problem appears? Also I need a bit more info regarding the problem
1)Since these compressed frames appear in the middle of the tv, do they appear on top of the menus as well?
2)Do they lose color(monochrome) or do these lines retain the color?
3)Also do the lies stay all the while or appear/disappear a while after its turned on for a while?

Sai.

Sure thing. I will wait for your response.

Yes thats exactly what I have suspected. Just in case if replacing the capacitor does not resolve the issue you should replace both the y-sus and z-sus boards as when one of them goes bad, it knocks out the other too.

Scan lines missing

wow..that's most definitely a video drive error. 1. Check to see your settings are good still. It's not out of the realm of possibility that something glitched in the settings. 2. Missing information is a video drive issue, period. I'd suggest that you have a video board that's truly unhappy. Is this still under warranty? Hope so, since these service calls can run some serious dough.

Sony Tv PFM-42 V1 doesn't show any picture or tv menu

This is a common problem with plasma tvs You did not mention whether you could generate any sound like through your dvd player or something like that. Whether you have audio or not makes a difference on which board may be causing you the problem. Just because it does not have a picture for tv viewing does not mean it won't produce some type of sound through your av1 input. Try it and I'll try to be more specific.

SONY - PFM-500A2WE 16:9 42-inch Plasma fault 22-12

According to the Sony Service Manual for the PFM-500A3WU, 12 22 means either the Plasma Panel has failed or the Power Supply has failed. 12 means "warning decrease of panel high voltage" and 22 means "warning of decrease of middle panel voltage".ve had a look on other forums and someone as narrowed the 12/22 code down to the (ic102) its only outputing 5volts its something to do with the (b+ power supply)
