I had this same problem on a Realistic Navaho, TRC-30A that I purchased in the mid 70's (I still have it by the way).

The cause of my radio to do this was a shorted diode in the keying circuit on the main board. The shorted diode effectively did the same as keying the microphone.... without the microphone being connected.

You need to find the schematic for your radio and check for shorted components on the keying line. If you don't have a schematic, you can unplug the radio and use a ohmmeter and check for a shorted diode or transistor in the keying circuit.

Please let me know if I can be of further assistance to you.

Good luck!
- Jim

How to wire a 4 pin ProComm microphone to work on a 5 pin microphone for a Uniden Grant XL

The simplest way is to order a microphone adapter from ebay or a reputable CB shop. I have all my mics wired for standard 4 pin cobra. The standard 4 pin cobra is the most common and if you keep adapters handy then you can use all different kinds of mics on different radios.

Why does the uniden grant go into transmit mode when turned on

if this happens without a mic attached, it is common for the tx/rx switching transistor to fail

I have a uniden grant and i have wired a galaxy power desk mic with rogger beep when ever i key it up it squeals was wondering is there a way to fix that

yeah your mic gain is way too high. You can either turn off talk back if you can, or turn the gain down. Depending on how loud the talk back is, your audio may suffer. If that is the case, you will not be able to run that mic. Get an RK-56 or a Skythumper mic. They are noise canceling. You will get no squeal with that mic, and it will sound awesome.

If you really want a roger beep, take it to a tech and them install one.

When i key up the mic it interfers with my radio speakers

No fault of the Grant, just that the radio is demodulating the powerful RF of the Grant. It just happens no real cure, nature of the "beast". Only thing I can suggest is to move the radio away from the CB station or lower the mic gain or simply turn it off.
