The internet connection has a security that's why you can't access the internet. The only thing you have to do is to know the wpa password of the router.
This router has a default username and password to configure all the settings. This is the manual for Cnet CWR-854 Router:

It seems that the router is already configured by an authorized person, the best thing you should do is contact the authorized person that knows everything about the router.

I understand how security works with routers and wireless. This is an old couple who have dsl router installed not knowing it was also a wireless. I am renting a room for 6 months from them. The wife wants to get a laptop to work upstairs bc the computer is in the basement.
I know I need the WPA password, but they don't have a clue what it might be, it was set up through frontier 2 years ago. that is why I was going through the default and reset. the network has their name on it, so someone came and set it up. the signal was strong upstairs where I stay. which is how I saw it, they never knew they had it bc their computer was always directly connected.
Now the router, wont work at all. after I reset it the light turned red and blinked after 10s. I tried admin for user which was defaulted and telus for password but it always said something like this operation needs a password.
So I followed other advise I found online and turned it off and on then it never came back on to work. btw they use explorer, does that make a difference, bc the other users were talking of using firefox or safari? I think the router is toast, I did the self test on xp to find the problem and it said call the service provider.

Have you got permission to use their wireless Internet connection? The wireless connection has a WPA encryption and you need to get this encryption key from them and permission to get access to their Internet connection.
