There are no recalls on GE over the range microwave JVM1540DN1WW but there SHOULD BE! Mine lasted only a year and a half and then started running and heating with the door open. Shortly after that it stopped heating at all. The light and fan works, and the keyboard lights up but the turntable doesn't turn anymore (yes I made sure the turntable was turned on), and it doesn't heat. It will count down like it's heating but it doesn't heat. Changing the door switches didn't work. Husband thinks it is the magnetron which is expensive to fix. I won't ever buy another GE microwave period! Check the web and you will see all the similar complaints. I just searched online and for a lesser price than I paid for the GE, Samsung sells one that has the one year warranty but also has a 10 year warranty on the magnetron.

SOURCE: Our Kenmore Microwave Model 401.8934991

Hello there,
The problem is nt common with the device. It simply is as a resultof a bad control board, there is some kind of partial contact on the control board, that is why it is starting by itself without anyone controlling it or without any program set on it.
Have the control board checked for the partial contact corrected and the oven will work perfectlyfine once again.
Hope this was helpful to you. Goodluck Elect_Comp

MY GE MODEL NO. JVM1540DN1WW MICROWAVE OVEN NOT WORKING.on the screen of control panel there is a picture of a micro wave and 'press start' showing. But it wont start. I unplugged the plug for a minute and...

You probably have a shorted membrane keypad.

The problem can be intermittent, going away and coming back, but sooner or later it will be permanent.

On this model, the membrane keypad is not available as a separate part, so you would have to order the control panel frame assembly which comes with a new keypad. attached

In this case, you simply move your circuit board into the new frame. That is a simple do-it-yourself job.

It is part number WB56X10824 and you can order it from the Pros here for $135.33 (subject to change).

You can find helpful exploded view diagrams and other order parts by entering your full model number (JVM1540DN1WW) at that link, too.
You can find a video here showing how to remove a typical over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.

Then you unplug the keypad (as per the photo below) and move your circuit board into the new frame. Be careful - the display is made of glass.

Some connectors may have a lock.

Oven light jvm1540dn1ww

Hello,
# 1 Unplug the microwave from its electrical outlet. Never service an electrical appliance while it's plugged in.# 2 Remove the screws that hold the outer shell onto the microwave chassis. Often the screws are on the bottom or back of the microwave. Use a Phillips screwdriver or Torx driver to remove the screws.# 3 Lift the outer shell off the microwave chassis and locate the box that houses the halogen lightbulb. In most cases, the box is metal. It may or may not have a lid on it. If it has a lid, loosen the tabs and pull off the lid.# 4 Unscrew the halogen bulb and replace it with a bulb rated at the exact same wattage.# 5 Place the cover back onto the box if necessary and place the shell over the microwave chassis.# 6 Secure the shell to the chassis with the original screws and the screwdriver or torx driver.
Regards.

GE Profile Spacemake 2.0 fan stayed on and started to burn. Significant smoke damage to the house. Recalled?

check inside to see if the wave guide cover is burnt. If it is you must change.Check for recalls at ge recalls to verify fan recall.

Touch sreen won't work

I would suspect it either needs a hard reset (unplugging it for a few minutes, then trying again) or the membrane keypad is failing.

Instead of JMV1540BMC01, it would probably be one of these models:

JVM1540DM1BB
JVM1540DM1CC
JVM1540DM1WW
JVM1540DM2BB
JVM1540DM2CC
JVM1540DM2WW
JVM1540DN1BB
JVM1540DN1CC
JVM1540DN1WW
JVM1540DN2BB
JVM1540DN2CC
JVM1540DN2WW
JVM1540LM1CS
JVM1540LM2CS
JVM1540LN1CS
JVM1540LN2CS
JVM1540SM1SS
JVM1540SM2SS
JVM1540SN1SS
JVM1540SN2SS

JVM1540DN1WW leaves food cold

Put in one cup of water at 2 1/2 minutes on high -- it should boil.

The fan slowing down is normal becaue the magnetron, which does the heating and, which pulls about 10 amps, will drop the voltage across the fan and slow it down.

What type of circuit was your old microwave using? Was it a circuit dedicated to the microwave?

My mothers Kenmore countertop microwave oven caught on fire late one evening. She remembers nothing of the fire circumstances as she was in a burn center for six weeks. My sister had the same model...

There is a GE/Kenmore recall: http://injurylaw.reganfirm.com/2007/12/articles/defective-products/cpsc-notice-ge-ge-profile-kenmore-microwave-ovens-recalled/. I don't know if your relative's models are involved. I suggest that you file an incident report with the Consumer Product Safety Commission.
