What year was the hotpoint refrigerator CTX21DA made?

The problem is relatively simple to repair. The drain tube in the freezer is blocked so the water will drain down the back of your fridge. Often the drain gets blocked by ice build up. The defrost circuit in your fridge has failed and ice is building up on the evap coil in the freezer. When the ice builds up, it blocks the drain tube. The typical failures of the defrost is the timer failing to advance or the heater is burned out. Being that said it was probally manufactured at least10 years ago, and certainly a new refridgerator would be more energy efficient and cheaper to operate than using a 10 year old model. Whether you should repair or replace it depends on whether you have the money to replace it. Hope this helps you.

In the last few years GE has placed the models serial label on the top center, top left or top right of the fresh food section. Older models had it behind the fresh food door at the bottom or behind the grille. Also there were a couple of years they placed it behind or to the side of one of the lower drawers.

There's a date code on the label with the model number. If you enter all the other info from that label, I think I can track down the year/month that it was made.

Heater coil can be checked with a continuity meter, just be sure to unplug the unit first. Before you do anything, locate the defrost timer which is under the control panel in the fridge at the top in the back. There is a little white plastic plug cover a small hole, remove that and you will see the manual advance device. You can only turn it one way due to its design, so using a flat bladed screwdriver that fits the device turn it slowly until you hear a click. then listen in the freezer for sizzling noises as the heater warms up. If you hear the noise you will need to replace the defrost timer, part is available on line. If it doesn't activate the timer then check the continuity on the heater element and the defrost thermostat. (You will have to cut the wires on the thermostat to accomplish this) and check it for continuity. The thermostat needs to be frozen to read properly otherwise it will appear to be open so leave it in a freezer for a bit then check it out. all the parts are available online, just google for refrigerator parts and look for your model.
