My problem is I have a Maxtor One Touch lll Mini 150 GB external hard drive; which was accidentally formatted and thereby lost the ability to utilize the setup feature. It will not allow me to use the one touch backup feature and other utilities. These options are not available; since the formatting erased them. Is there a download possible to restore these items and if not, is there another way to remedy this situation?

Sure you can recover some files (not all) using third party recovery app. and do not write data to disk untill you complete the recovery

SOURCE: drive not detected in Mac

you might have to reformat it, try going on to the application "disk utility" on your mac and check to see if your hard drive shows up there. if so all you have to do is mount it and then it should show up on your desktop.

SOURCE: Maxtor One Touch II - installation Software

I have a disk that worked for me and I am running windows xp. I also have the website address that is supposed to have the 98 drivers which could work perhaps. http://www.seagate.com/ww/v/index.jsp?locale=en-US&name=Maxtor_OneTouch_Drive_USB/Win98SE_Driver&vgnextoid=b07d8b9c4a8ff010VgnVCM100000dd04090aRCRD

Guess you could try them first and if that doesnt work I could perhaps make a backup of the disk/package/mail/ worth anything?

SOURCE: Data disappeared overnight

I've seen a lot of flack about these puppies lately. It's usually due to the external enclosure, the harddrive is in, and not the harddrive itself.

It is for this reason, that I suggest that you take the harddrive out of this enclosure, and install it into a decent, affordable, new external enclosure.
External enclosures are relatively cheap!

The harddrive inside the Maxtor One Touch II is a desktop size harddrive. It's a 3.5 inch one.
(3 and a half inches across in width)
It is a Sata harddrive.

These are examples of external enclosures for a Sata 3.5 inch harddrive,
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/category/category_slc.asp?CatId=2780&name=3.5-eSATA-enclosure&Nav=|c:2778|&Sort=0&Recs=10
(My recommendation would be the Vantec NexStar 3 NST-360 Su-BL)

This external enclosure has instructions, is easy to install the harddrive, and uses a USB cable just like your old one.

I have a maxtor mini one touch 160gb external gard drive. i have tried to plug it in with this usb cord (i got a new one because i lost the original one) it is making a beeping noise and the power light...

ou have a usb controller board that is malfunctioning and it or the case for the usb hard drive needs to be replaced.
the power regulator that is built into the usb controller is not working therefore the usb logic circuit cannot transmit the signal to the PC viia the USB port and will not recognize the device. You can order or purchase a new case that will accommodate the hard drive from your local computer store.

MY external hard disk maxtor is not detected

Is this a new Maxtor external drive? It came with a CD. Run the utility.

If there is no data on it that you want to save, you can also blow away the partition and format it:
Right-click [My Computer]
[Manage]
[Disk Management]
Find your external Maxtor Disk inthe list and / or graph
Right-click on the disk and select either "Format" or "Delete Partition"
(try format first) Use "NTFS quick format"

If you delete the partition, then "Create Partition" and then format.
You can assign a drive letter or accept whatever it assignes (probably Drive D)
*done*

Maxtor OneTouch III Mini not appearing on MacBook Pro

Hi Lois,
If your Maxtor appears in Disk Utility but the disk volume is not displayed, it's possible that the partition on the disk has been deleted for some reason. If that's the case, you will have to use a disk partitioning utility to create a new partition and then format the hard drive.
Best wishes,

Maxtor One-Touch 4 750gb power light flashes and goes out straight away.

Try to remove the drive and connect it directly to another computer.
If still doesn't spin up then most likely the board has failed.

Maxtor OneTouch lll Mini 120 GB

If your using a USB hub, unplug another device (i.e printer or scanner, fax, etc.). Plug in your One Touch. Then turn off your pc and turn it back on. This should work.
If you use a alot of USB devices, you may need to get a USB Power Hub.
You can try an plug in the One Touch straight to the pc and unpluging all other usb device except the keyboard and mouse.
Let me know if this helps. You also may need to move the ac power to another outlet.

Maxtor one touch

Hi, You can try and use PowerQuest PartitionMagic. It will allow you to partition/format/check most HDs including USB connected. Choices/options are from FAT16 to NTFS and Linux. Another handy disk utility that is a freeware is HP's bootable flash utility at http://h18000.www1.hp.com/support/files/serveroptions/us/download/23839.html Hope this be of some help/idea. Post back how things are or should you need further information. Good luck and kind regards.
