Samsung microwave SMH7178STE no juice

Used it closed the door and happened tp look up a few moments later. No display ,no lights nothing ------ no electricity.I checked the wall outlet and it was still good ,checked the two small fuses on the board directly behind the keypad. They checked out with a volt tester,no breaks in the path anyway. Is there another fuse location?could it be something else?

  • acmservice Sep 27, 2017

I would think the small fuses You mentioned may be just for protecting the board. Is it possible there is another fuse and fuse holder inside the unit. I would remove the outer cover and follow the power cord to a main fuse holder. If it went out when you opened and closed the door, you may have a bad door switch that caused the fuse to blow. Check all of the door switches while you have it open.

  • acmservice Sep 27, 2017

Also, had you cooked in this for a long time before it went out? It is possible the main fuse got hot due to bad onnections at the fuse holder and melted the fuse. May need a new fuse and fuse holder.

SOURCE: Samsung Microwave model # SMH7178STD just stopped working.

This is usually caused by either a bad door switch, a loose door switch mount, or a problem on the control panel.

Even though a door switch clicks, it may still be bad inside.

If you or a friend decide to look into it, we have critical information on safety, disassembly and door switches at our site, linked here on Fixya: http://tinyurl.com/yzjozk

Hi,

Press the "Off/Clear' button to cancel anything on the display, and reset the microwave. This is a soft reset and will simply get you out of any program you have started. Press it when the cooking complete reminder appears on the display.
Perform a hard reset. Pull the plug out of the wall power supply, and wait a moment. Plug the GE microwave back into the wall power supply to reset any anomalies with the microwave's memory. You will need to reset the time of day if you perform a hard reset.
Reset the time of day. Press the "Clock" button, and turn the dial to set the hours. Press the dial to enter. Follow the same procedure for the minutes and a.m. or p.m. Press the "Start" button to start the clock.

My samsung microwave Model me18h704sfs turns on when the door is closed. I replaced the door switches. however that did not fix the problem. what should i check next?

The unit is in cook mode as soon as the door is closed because it is sensing there is still time left to be completed. Place a large bowl of water in the oven and allow the oven to start to heat the water. Press CANCEL after a few moments of operation . If this fails to stop the oven, the fault is in the motherboard. It has "shorted" and is in a permanent cook mode. Professional repair (read replace board) is required ...or replace oven if more economical.

Why samsung smh9187w door will not latch

Had the same problem on my Samsung SMH9187. The two latches are cheap plastic. After watching a video on U tube on how to get the door apart, I fixed it with a paper clip and ordered the parts online (two years later I still have the paper clip holding the plastic latch in place). Look for the SE error to happen next, its not made very good.

Will not heat and the truntable will not run

It's almost certainly the primary interlock (top door switch).

See this file for details on checking and replacing door switches.

You can also see the video at our site, which shows you how to access the door switches.

We have the service manual for the model SMH7178STE here, which should be pretty similar. It will also help you with disassembly.

Sharp Microwave died after Power Surge

We have the R530ES service manual for this model and have uploaded it to our site here to help you. It's close enough to the R530EK and EW models, in case that's what yours is.

You will need the free Acrobat Reader to view or print it.

Actually you have two separate problems, and both are easily solved..

(1) The reason that only the inside light comes on when you try to cook is that your secondary (bottom) door interlock switch is bad, or its mount is misaligned or broken.

Door switch or mount trouble can be caused by slamming the door or by opening the door while it's cooking without hitting the Stop pad first.

There are plastic mounts inside the microwave which hold the door switches and onto which the door latches lock when you close the door.

The screws on these mounts may be loose. If they get too loose, the switches will not be activated properly.

Sometimes it's a broken tab on the switch holder, allowing the switch to rotate just out of position. This tab can be hard to see, since it is under the bottom edge of the switch.

If you only need a switch, you can order one from us for $5 postpaid or local appliance parts stores, hardware stores, or places like Wal-Mart, Lowe's or Builder's Square.

(2) The display problem is something we regularly repair these for customers nationwide with our guaranteed $39.95 service in about a week.

Feel free to contact me directly for more information & help.

Whirlpool microwave does not switch on - no power

A problem with a door switch or door switch mount (like this one) will cause the fuse to blow when the door is opened or closed.

There may be a second fuse inside.

You also need to check the door switches and latches to be sure all the debris is out.

There is often a "mini-manual" hidden inside the unit behind the control panel or hidden on the left side behind the grille, which is very helpful when troubleshooting & testing.

Sounds like the door switches are out of adjustment or broken.
I would take it to a shop for repair. Microwaves are almost always repaired affordably unless it is really old.
Hope ya fix it!
