Fuji FinePix S602 Zoom Digital Camera Logo
Anonymous Posted on Jan 23, 2010

I cannot format cards in my Fuji S602 zoom.

When I switch on my Fuji S602 zoom it displays a 'card not iniialized' error message. I tried different cards and attempted to reformat the cards in the camera but with no success. Any ideas?

    Hi Jerry
Thanks for the suggestion. I managed to use my PC to re-format a card that had worked in the camera before this problem appeared but no joy. Still getting the ' card not initialized ' error message when I switch on and ' !card error ' if I use the format option inside the camera.

Id did this, too.
if you rename the camera folders , toast.
says so in book page , 4 bullets up, bottom right of page.
I renamed my cam folder to S602 , that killed it.

you can not delete folders or files from PC ever.
only from the camera.
the names are all sacred
now i cant format using the camera either.

nasty feature.

will post with solution if any.
formating with PC is crazy there are huge numbers of format profiles, all are no good.

Make sure your card is compatible for your camera, and or it is not defective. I know that with some camera models the card must meet specific specs. Consult your camera dealer or call Fuji photo support to verify if your card is compatible.

If you have the adabtor for your card to be used directly on your computer, you can see if formating your card with the computer will help. This is not the proper fix, but it may work for you.

My casio exilim EX-Z75 won't let me take pics, there is a card error message. I just bought this camera used and bought the memory card with it. It is a Impact 1GB card.

It seems the card is not formatted correctly

Try to format the card from within the Camera or You can format the card on a computer using a Card reader.

Note: make sure you format the card as FAT32 and no other format.

Thank you

Im getting a error message when I turn the camera on it says, ! card not initialized I can't seem to figure out how to fix this

Your camera wants you to format the card in the camera. This will erase it so download any pictures you want to save first using a card reader if necessary.

I have a finepix S602Z and when i turn it on it comes up as card error this happens on different cards any ideas on how to correct this please

I suggest you take the batteries out and wait two minutes and reinsert them. Making sure that they are inserted correctly. If this doesn't work, try replacing the batteries with new ones.

If you formatted the memory card using your computer, or deleted images using your computer, you now need to Format the card with the CAMERA. One of the camera menus will have a Format command.
This is what FujiFilmUSA.com has to say about the Card Error:

When you recieve a "Card Error" or "Card Not Initialized" message, this indicates that your memory may be temporarily corrupted. This can be due to not formatting your memory card on a consistent basis. Most consumers will use the "delete all" feature and continue to take pictures. By doing this, the file format of the card may become unstable.

We recommend formatting your memory card in your camera after saving the images from your previous shooting session. Once a memory card is formatted, the images will not be recoverable.

Fuji Fine Pix S602 Z Memory card formatting problem

Looking at the original advertisements for that camera, it is only advertised as having memory cards up to 1Gb. You might find that the problem is that the camera doesn't support a card as big as 4Gb. You can probably check this in your manual.

I cant change the file format on my fuji finepix s602 how can i do it

I'm no expert - just visiting this forum for a 'card not initialised' problem on the same model. If you a have look in the solution to 'card not initialised' problem raised elsewhere in this forum someone has helpfully explained how to format the card (if that is your problem) by using a DOS command in Windows (scroll to bottom as the advice that was initially given was corrected). You will need a USB card reader to do it. The format of the media card seems to be FAT.

However if you mean you want to save the images in .raw data form I had a look in the manual but there doesn't seem to be an option in the s602 to save in anything other than .jpg - unless someone else knows more.

Initialize memory card in fuji s602 digital camera

install the card, turn the camera on, go into the menu and find format. It will tell you that when you format you will also erase the contents of the SD card. Click yes and format the card. Thats it. Joe

Card Error message

Your card may have become corrupted, there are good free utilities out there to save such files from corrupted memory cards, try DIR (Digital Image Recovery) that you can use with a computer card reader if the computer does not recognize your connected camera as an external hard drive.

If you were able to recover your files, format the card in the camera, that should solve your problem using the card.

If the card cannot be recognized by the computer or formatting the card doesn't help, you may have a defective memory card, try another one.

If the card works otherwise but is still not recognized by the camera you may have a defective memory card connector or other camera motherboard problem, sorry.

Hope this helped...

Memory card

Because this camera only understads FAT16 formatting, it does not accept any card larger than 2GB so your best bet is to use the current crop of standard 2GB CF cards, most newer ones (usually 16X and faster) are alsa fast enough for continuous VGA video as well. The best brands IMO are Lexar and Sandisk, but avoid the WA enabled cards, this camera can't make use of WA, it just slows the througput down.

Alternatively you may partition your 8GB card to a 2GB partition, but the rest of the card won't be accessible.

Fuji finepix s602

Usually a bad card in my experience - I'm too tight to buy decent cards, and quite a few have given me problems. Luckily they're quite cheap nowadays!!

You could try using a PC with card reader to format them first, and cleaning the contacts carefully.

Hope this helps.
