My zen vision:M charges on my computer but my computer won't recognize it so I can't transfer songs or do anything with my zen on my computer
Mine did this too, and I have the exact reason why.
If the first solution didn't work for you (as it didn't with me), follow these instructions
Connect your Zen to the computer
-On your computer, click start, then control panel
-Click on Add Hardware
-Go through this until it shows you a list of things recently added, Creative Zen should be up top somewhere (mine was) with a yellow question mark as the icon
-Click it and have it install it
-When a list pops up asking you if you want to have it do it just this once, or everytime without asking CLICK ON EVERYTIME. Tis is what stopped it from connecting to your computer.
The drivers were not installed.
My Creative Zen would not connect. All I did was click Start, right click on My Computer, click Manage, click on Device Manager, and right click on Creative Zen. Click on update drivers and it will download from the internet.
I tried this, but it didn't work. A similar strategy did work though:
go to My Computer, click Manage, click on Device Manager. My Zen was there with a yellow triangle. I uninstalled the Zen from the computer. Then I connected my Zen to the computer with the USB cable. The computer detected the Zen and re-installed it on the computer. Finally I can dock my Zen to my computer again :)
anti_apples idea worked perfectly. Took 3 seconds. Only thing I had to do was reset the device to get it to turn on before pluggin it back into my PC.
I had a similar problem reconnecting my zen to a new computer. Your advice worked perfectly.
Much appreciated. Paulp331

If you have any occurances of a libusb-win32 exe process running, it will block you're Vision:M from being recognized by the computer. You can do a couple of things to solve the problem. Either go into task manager and stop the process, or go into control pannel (classic view)> administrative tools> services and stop the process from there. In some cases (like mine) you may have installed the exe as a program (for example if you downloaded the driver to use a PS3 controller with you're pc) for these cases, they either come with an uninstaller that is accessible in the Program files folder, or you can simply delete the entire folder that the exe is in. That last one did it for me...hope it helps all of you.
Hi,
I had a problem similar to this, and fixed it by doing the following:
1. Plug the Zen in to the PC
2. Hold the power button 'on'
3. Press Reset twice
4. (This takes some time to load, about 30-45 minutes) But when it does you should get a list of options, select Reboot.
5. Hey presto, computer recognises Zen.
6. I suggest moving your music over immediately to your desktop as reboot may wipe the whole thing.
Good luck with it everyone...
If you have windows set to do automatic updates, you most likely had a windows update installed that caused this conflict with Win Media Player 11. No fix has been posted by Microsoft yet, so the only workaround is to Uninstall/Rollback Windows Media Player 11. Goto <Control Panel<Add/Remove Programs and remove Windows Media Player 11. Follow prompts, restart computer when prompted to. Also uninstall Windows Media Player 11 Runtime application following same procedure above.
This will roll your Windows Media Player back to version 10 or 9, whichever you had installed prior to version 11. You will need to re-configure Windows Media Player again.
Your Zen should now be recognized by WMP and Creative software. You probably need to upgrade your firmware at this point, follow the instructions on upgrading your firmware, and you should be good to go.
This is a windows problem, not a creative problem. Dont blame Creative for the screwed up hotfixes that Microsoft puts out on a regular basis.
Hello, I have a ZEN 4GB and had the same problem, before you do anything drastic like resetting or formatting, make sure you are using the original USB cable that came with the player, i.e. one with the small filter on the end, Good luck. jonihill.
You can try to install transferable tools from the disc that was in product box!
I have the Zen Mozaic, and my computer didnt recgonize it.
Here's what I did.
I made sure my mp3 player WAS NOT connected to the computer, and re installed Creative Centrale.
AFTER it was completely finished, I plugged in my Zen.
I pushed and held he reset button for 5 seconds.
I went to the start menu, right clicked my computer and chose properties.
In the Hardware tab, I clicked on device manager. My zen was listed under the other devices with a yellow ? beside it, finally I clicked update driver, and it worked!!
If it wont connect on to my computer then how do i save all my music i have on it b4 i reformatt????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????
Guys, what did you do before the problem was showed up? I have same bug since the moment I was try to connect my ZEN Vision M thru iPod cable. I still can use it as player, but lost the ability to syncronize it with PC (charging is working). Looks like I fucked up something in my hardware.
This is happening to my new ZEN (just zen, no surname) only turns on, charges, no connect screen
I just had to use a different computer but its a pain in the neck >:[
I'm tryin the rebooting thing right now :]
Thanks!
Same happends to my vision W it sucks big time
Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged. (Code 19)
Click 'Check for solutions' to send data about this device to Microsoft and to see if there is a solution available.
the above is what I find in Device Manager. no solutions under 'Check for solutions' what can I do??
Yeh same happened to my ZEN, trying to install on other pc see what happens, hope this works! Anyone have idea what i can do to make my pc detect ZEN??
If nothing works out, simply format the ZEN and everything will be fine !
Had many creative products now 4 in total, all have broken after about a year of use. My advice dont buy a creative. It pains me to say this but i may be forced to buy an ipod.
All you have to do is press and hold the reset button for 5 sec
If none of these solutions worked for you, you have either a hard drive failure or a motherboard failure. Go here: http://www.thegadgetdr.com/Articles.asp?ID=134 to see which one it is.
The only way to solve this problem is to take the hard drive out and rewrite the fimware directly to the the HDD. The problem is the creative restore utility that sometimes simply doesn't recognize connected devices. There is an ipod repair and creative zen repair service that can do it for you.

i have purched zen vision W today, the cd i got with it dose not work on window2000, i have only window 2000, will you please snd download for it
My computer won't recognise my Zen Vision:M at all. I have tried all 3 USB ports and it turns the player on, but does nothing else. When I tried downloading the recovery tool from the Creative website it says plug your player in - which I have done, but it is just not recognised. Please help me to fix this problem.
my creative zen isn't recognized by my media player. I tried all the ports and i even tried downloading the solution through creative but it says to connect my player. When i plug it in it turns on and says docked but when i look at my media player it says nothing's there. HELP ME!!!!
At the moment, neither my zen vision M or zen v will sync with my computer. They charge fine but neither one will switch to the sync mode when I turn on my computer. Wondering if it's a question of resources, but when i plug in the usb cable, instead of the normal happy dingdong sound XP makes when it recognizes a device, i get an unhappy dadadum sound which seems to mean that it knows something is there but it can't recognize it. Wondering if there is a limit to the number of devices that XP can recognize or if its a limitation with my computer which is a powerful Vaio, albeit several years old. Thing is, I got my zen vision replaced via warranty because of this problem and it worked perfectly for a while afterwards but now, a few months later, it won't sync again, and neither will my zen v plus. WTF! This is so annoying. I have all this music and can't get it onto my player. I prefer machines that have sync buttons instead of this auto sync crap because it seems with the numerous devices some of us have computers have a tough time figuring out wtf is connected to them at any given time. I have flash cards, cameras, media players, hard drives, etc. and I think we are kidding ourselves thinking this stuff is all going to connect seamlessly. That said, I will try unpluggin things and seeing where it takes me. Thanks for listening to my rant.
I get the stupid dadadum noise as well when connecting my Zen vision M. It worked fine up until i reformatted my hard drive and im going to attempt that again to see if i can fix the issue. Its a real pain in the ass though that i should have to waste another day reformatting my computer just because my damn mp3 player wont work so if anyone knows a solution to this problem please let me know before i reformat
yeah i hav the exact same problem here....i changed into windows xp service pack because of my mp3 player....it was alll goood 4 first 2 weeks.....but then but then it started getting messed up and now it will just charge and da computer doesn't recognise this device when its pugged in to the usb port.
yeah i hav the exact same problem with my creative media player....please if someone knows how to solve this pleeeease tell me.......thanx !!!!!!
it will turn on but it wont play and when i try to turn it off it wont it will go off by it self and when i plug it up my computer say connect a device
i put my zen on the computer to put songs on to it but all it does is charge and wont go into docked please help me out. whats the problem. oh and ive even tried reseting it.
same
It was working perfectly until the other day when it froze so I had to reset, however when I switched it back on, everything had been erased and when I hook it up to my PC it only charges, the computer won't recognize it so I can't transfer songs or do anything with my zen on my computer. I ** longer have the installation disc, but ***** needed to use it before. Any suggestions please??
When I turn on my zen unit it freezes up at the creative sign and does not let me do anything else. When I open up the software page I can not even down load any music because it is frozen up.
creative zen version m
my computer wont recognise my zen, how do i put music on it?
My Creative Zen vision M isn't recognized by my computer. I installed the installation CD and also installed windows media player 11. It stilld didnt work. Is there a simpler solution?
My Zen works fine on my own PC but it should be automatically recognised as a hard drive by other PCs and it isnt, it wont even charge. This is a design flaw that is extremely annoying and a gross oversight by creative who otherwise make excellent MP3 players
I have a similar but different problem. My computer will not recognize my Zen at all, no recharge, nothing. I have tried all the recommending solutions, but nata. I would love to update my firmware, but considering it isn't recognized by my computer, well that won't work.
Any thoughts?
EVEN WHEN MY ZEN IS CHARGED MY ZEN WON'T CONNECT TO THE COMPUTER FOR ME TO PUT SONGS ON
when iam connect to computer,in my player it shows DOCKED...?what is this...it does'nt show on coputer...what can i do???plz help me...
i recently rebooted my computer without thinking about my zen. after my computer was back up running in about 2 days, i could charge or add music to my zen, even though i intalled all the disks again. i can now charge when im in the removable disk when plugged in, but still cant add songs.
my computer don`t recognize my creative zen vision.m 30Gb
wont connect
totally the same problem, everytime starting up zen it rebuilds itself and then when connecting to pc got blue flashing light but wouldn't get recognised by pc!???
I haven't played my ZEN Vision:M for a about 6 months .... and when I tried to connect to the PC to re-charge the battery ...... it won't even come on. I can use the AC power cord and it comes on and works fine, but the only way to re-charge the battery and download music from my PC is to have the ZEN connected.
The software on my machine appears to be fine .... and when I plug in the ZEN (not only does the ZEN not come on) it doesn't show as connected on the software.
Why won't the ZEN player come on to charge the battery ???

I have the 8 GB Zen and windows cannot see it, even though I took all the steps encouraged on the creative site. Stink.
i don't have the installation disc any longer and i need to connect my creative zen. how do i do that?
cannot detect my player when connected to pc.
My creative zen V seies sucks big time. Every time I connect it to the computer via a usb cable my computer doesnt recognize it. When I go to creative media explorer it says you player is not connected which means i cant transfer songs etc.. I need help.
My computer does not detect my creative zen, I tried reinstalling the program from the disk and it won't even recognize it on the installation. I think I may have a software problem, but I don't know what software to add in order to fix this. The thing is, the whole thing was fine up until I had netFramework 1.1 installed on my pc for my TI 89. Could this have caused the problem? Let me know.

i have the same problem anyone know how to fix
Same problem as described
Ok. I've been having the same problems as many in this string. I have a Vision M. I've noticed some change in connectivity. It started with not being recognized by my laptop but I could still connect to my desktop, although it was recognized thru My Computer as a peripheral. Since I was able to connect to desktop, I just used it to transfer songs and movies to Zen. And since there had been no real fix for my laptop problem as far as I have found on the net, I was ok with transfering stuff via my desktop. This worked for about 6 months.... Today, I got some movies from a friend and was planning on transfering them to my Zen. Now my desktop wont recognize the Zen.??? It will turn Zen on and charge but wont dock. After spending some time on the net again, I tried something. Deleting file \windows\inf\infcache.1 on my laptop. I didnt have this file on my desktop, so no luck deleting it. With my laptop, Zen will turn on and charge but still will not be recognized. This is my latest experience with my zen. Anybody got any ideas on what is going on with this thing?
Thanks.
nothing
diddo! my laptop with windows xp wont recognize my zen vision m 30gb and i'm haveing a firmware problem when i first boot my player. Then goes to recovery mode! plzz if someone knows how to fix it letme know! _
Hi. This is so frustrating. I have a creative zen and same problem: my computer won't read my player when i connect it.It just charges. I sing and there are songs I really need to transfer to my player so that i can study them but too bad i can't achieve this cause my creative zen won't be recognized. I tried the resetting thing by plugging in my player and pressing on the power button to reset but it won't work. it just charges. HEEEEELLLLPPP please. my email address is [email protected]. Really hope can get a solution for this. Thanks!
my zen is not being recognized by my computer, and it doesn't rebuild all the way. Please help.
i have the same problem i'm going to try the reboot thing, hope it works
when i connect my player m computer does not recognise it
MY COMPUTER WONT RECOGNIZE MY ZEN!!!!
Hey, my brother gave me his Zen awhile back and I can't get it to connect to my computer.
At first it was freezing on me often and I found out all I had to do
was reset it. Problem solved. Now I try connecting it to the computer
and windows just says the device is unknown and has malfunctioned and
it ends there. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling but no go. I've
got the software loaded on my computer but it just says it's not
connected when it is.
The cable charges the Zen fine, it plays music, video and pictures no problem, it's just it won't connect.
I've gone into the recovery mode and used the clean up utility but that
had no effect, other than it seems to run a little quicker.
I imagine the firmware is old "V1.20.02_0.0.25" and would like to update but how can I when it won't connect?
I imagine if I went to update firmware, it would delete the current firmware and then I couldn't update, leaving me screwed.
Now big question is, what does rebooting it do exactly?
See I would try that or formatting the drive but My brother gave it to
me with TONS of music and treasured family pictures of us traveling
around the world. They're the only copies because the hard drive they
were on crashed.
Will rebooting it wide the data too?
Can anyone PLEASE help me?!
it sucks.
i have no idea what reboot means.
i dont know what that chick up there means by hold in the power button
or press rest twice.
this stuff isn't even funny man!
all i wanna do is transfer music
My LAPTOP will not recognize my Zen Vision:M when I plug it into the USB port, although it will charge the battery. When I plug the unit into my DESKTOP computer, it is recognized just fine. Therefore, I don't believe the problem is with the Zen, but with USB drivers, and software on the XP (SP3) laptop. I know the hardware is working, since my thumb drives work just fine.
My zen wont connect to my laptop but does connect to my desktop. Tried the reset and it didn't work.
I have a creative z vision m..60 gig. It charges fine, yet my computer will not recognize it when I connect it thu my usb port. My firmware..creative zen explorer with not recogonize it. So I cannot add or deleat anything.
computer wont recogonize zen creative
well i have the same problem i entered the disc and installed it and everything but my computer doesn't know my zen is there
I tried following the advice of 'rebooting', though no such luck. None of the files on my device were deleted, however the computer still will not recognise it.
I will say that when I have come to restart my Zen more recently, it no longer does the 'rebuilding' routine at all, just loads up fine, whether that is of relevance I do not know, should I expect something of the same nature when I 'reboot'?
Also, I get the litte transfering arrow sign on the screen now and again and the device is occasionally charged too by the computer, though when I come to transfer data either the software freezes (if it is able to identify the device for a few moments), or simply doesn't recognise it at all.
I have a 4GB creative zen, never had a problem until now, my computer will not recognize the device is connected.!
aarg... I hate this thing. I tried downloading the drivers but the PC will not recognize the Zen. I tried holding down the power button but that doesn't work either. This is so frustrating.
i have the exact same problem. This MP3 player is junk
it will not connect to the computer but it will charge from the computer
no lights, no camera, not actioin on zen and the computer does not even recognize it is attached to it by the USB port and cable..I was listening to it and all of a sudden it shut off and everything went black..It is all still black and has been plugged in to the computer since 6:00 am this morning..
HELP!!!!!!
I accidently got onto this reboot screen, but before i could choose and option, it switched off! I've got it on again now, but don't know how i got to that screen! I have a Zen Microphoto and don't know where this reset button is! Help!
idk what happened but now when i go to put more music on my zen vison m it starts charging but it wont read it as a recognized device.

I also have the computer won't recognize zen when it's connected problem. It connects briefly then disconnects, but remains charging.
Having the same issue. was attempting to load some MP3s onto this and the Explorer program that worked as of January isn't recognizing my device. Reinstall the software without success. Is this a MS upgrade that is blocking recognition?
My Zen has the same problem. It is an 8g mp3 that chages but doesn't connect. I tried looking for the file the guy on the top was talking about and i could not find it. I also don't understand what that girl was talking about...
the same thing is happening to me. I tried everything. I uninstalled all the software and tried reinstalling it but it didn't work. resetting my player doesn't work either.
I had the same problem. Steve_stig's solution solved it for me. I had loaded drivers for a PS3 controller.
I've had my Vision:M for about 2 years, and I plugged it into the computer yesterday, and it turns on, but it won't charged, and it's not being recognized by the computer. It says that there's nothing connected at all. And the batteries at 1/4 power, so any help soon would be great, thanks!
I got the same prob with my zen...

same for me, its in my computer but zen creative explorer won't recognize it!

I have the same problem, my laptop wont recognise my zen. It lights up when i plug it in but the laptop wont recognise it and it wont charge. I recently installed McAfee antivirus and I think it is stopping the USB port from recognising it somehow as I have unistalled it and it worked again, however as I'm with BT I need to have McAfee. Does anyone know of any way to sort this?
I have pretty much the same problem. Or now I do anyway. I recently got a windows XP computer and I always could transfer music from my old DELL labtop. My Zen does charge when i plug it into my computer, but it won't let me transer music. Does anyone have a solution ot this?
