I have a kenmore refrigerator model 2537481240E. The compressor will not run and there is a burnt smell from the start relay/overload. I searched for the part at Sears parts direct, but I don't know which part to order....One part is called an overload and it includes a relay (4387835), the other part is called a start relay (2262181). Can you help me decide which part I need ????? e

Fan is running is side by side frigrerator but it is not cooling down anything inside

Is your compressor running? Compressor is found in the back. The relay on the side of compressor is a common problem on these units if you have the Embraco brand compressor. If the start relay/overload is bad on the compressor usually it may smell burnt or rattle when shook from loose contacts inside the relay box. Replace the relay if you notice either problem with a factory part looked up by your model number found inside fresh food compartment near the top by lights.

Freezer is all deforsted. Fridge is 5 years old. We smelled a burning smell 2 nights ago and now everything is defrosted. We couldnt tell where the smell was coming from in our house. Motor is running....

If the evaporator (freezer) fan and the condensor (bottom rear) fan are both running but you have no cooling at all, the odor you smelled was probably the compressor start relay/overload device. It would be in your best interest to have a professional service technician look at it. Proper repair could mean the difference between a $60 part, or a $300 compressor. Prices are for the part only.

My amana bottom freezer model #abb1921dew smelled like smoke and the compressor was not running. I unplugged it over night and when plugged in again it appears to be running fine. Any suggestions?

I would suggest replaceing the overload/relay w/capacitor .
Pt # 67005560 . This piece , easily plugs onto the side of the compressor . If you replace it now , since it is already burnt , it would save you the trouble of replacing it later , when the compressor will not restart . It will happen again , due to the burning .

The refrigerator started smoking this morning and now it smells like burnt plastic. The smell is coming from the bottom and the back of the fridge.

Sounds like the overload/relay kit , has burnt . This piece is plugged onto the compressor , with 2 or 3 wires going to it . Can be easily replaced . Without model number , can't give you the part number . Take the model number with you , when you go to get the part .

Refrig compressor only click but does not engage

Probably the start relay or a bad overload (check overload continuity with a volt/ohm meter) Maybe a broken or burnt off wire inside the compressor terminal cover. Possible, but unlikely compressor locked up. Unplug it before getting into the terminal cover.

Refrigerator not cooling

the most likely problem will be the start relay for the compressor. the clicking noise is the compressor trying to start and then the relay cycles back off. the part number is 8201786 and can be purchased from any loal appliance parts house thru sears.com or any othe online parts source. the kit comes with good instructions so you should be able to repair yourself.
it would be a good idea to unplug the refrig until you get it repaired to prevent possible compressor damage. thanks peyton..

Compressor not running

This is the overload/relay assembly. Although a burned up overload can sometimes indicated a defective compressor, in most cases you can fix the problem by replaceing the overload/relay.
