Why is my XBOX screen darker than usual? I turned it on today and I could barely see the screen. I turned up the brightness, but that didn't help. I can still see the screen, but barely. Can anyone give advice?

It is telling you that you need a new backlamp or that the power supply that feeds it is out. It could be bad Chinese capacitors or you may actually need a back lamp. The hint was when it was working did the side edges have a darker brightness to them? If yest the lamp is needed. If no then the capacitors in the backlamp supply may have decayed.
How long u have this RCA analoge tv?Around 10 years or more and used it like about 5 or 6 hrs everydays?Yes,than ur tv it is losing CRT tube radiation cohetion. As times go bye years in years out the tv CRT-(tv tube) radiation will slowly dying out,Tv actual pictures will lost some of it luster and it brightnesses to the tv auctual pictures.Brightnesses of CRT tube will get darker and darker until the tv actual pictures barely it is watchable anymore.Contrast,Brightness and Colors adjusting more will help some. But u have to take this tv aparts and take a Flat scerw driver turn up a little bit more of the tv HV-(high voltage) SCREEN button on the FBT-(flyback transformer) to make any big differences of the CRT tube brightnesses. The FBT-(flyback tranformer) is the big block of plastic with a red wire with a black cap hook up to the tv CRT-(tv tube). This adjustment on of the FBT,HV-SCREEN button will help the tv CRT-(tv tube) last another year or two.
Most computers have a key combination to increase brightness. This is usually Fn+UP for brighter on Fn+DOWN for darker. If this is not the correct key combo, look for keys that have symbols looking like the sun or a light, those keys combined with Fn will change the screen brightness. This can also be changed in Windows, if that is the OS you are using. Go to Start->Control Panel->Power Options and an opiton for screen brightness will be there. Also, right clicking the battery/power cord icon in the system tray can get you to the power options.
Hi, Usually what it means when a screen is darker on one side than the other is that the " backlight " has becom weak. You can try turning the overall " Brightness " down and this may lessen the problem a little. In my opinion that's what should be causing the problem. Good luck, I hope this helps, Prodzilla.
It would seem that backlight for your screen is out. The light may be dead, have a poor connection, or your brightness may be down to zero. To see if the brightness is just low hold the function button "FN" and if you look on the left and right arrow keys there should be a Sun on each one. The left being brighter or filled in, the right darker or hollow. Press the left key while holding the "FN" button. Keep doing this to increase the brightness. If the screen doesn't get brighter there is an issue with the backlight. This is usually covered under warranty. If you still have a warranty contact Acer and they should repair your computer free of charge. If it is not under warranty you may need to replace the screen.
If it is dark due to brightness adjustment, get that adjusted. Usually when you adjust the brightness by pressing the menu button, the menu screen would not be dark. If everything is dark dark dark and you can only see some display but in very pitch darkness, then your monitor is a goner, backlit for the monitor is dead, and your monitor will need to be replaced. You can fix the backlit tubing, however it is risky, and expensive, and would cost less if you bought a replacement.
You can adjust the brightness by pressing 2nd + Up (or Down) arrow key constantly. (Like, 2nd, Up, 2nd Up, 2nd Up) to make it darker. If you do 2nd + Down, and repeat will make the screen so dim that you can barely see it >_
Have you tried to adjust the monitor brightness? There is a function in the menu for Monitor Brightness that will allow you to make the LCD display lighter or darker. Go to Mode Menu and then down to Setup tab and then to the icon for Monitor Brightness (page 88 of the advanced user manual explains how to set this up).
Sounds like you've got a vertical deflection problem causing the shrunk picture and finally a solid bright line. As to the loss in brightness you may be losing screen voltage to your picture tube.
Probably it is time to shop for a new tv since cost of repairs may be too much.
