I have my camera plugged into the usb port to charge the light comes on for about 5 min then it goes off, my computer is not detecting the (found new hardware) when i plug the camera into the port
Is the light that's coming on green or red?
if it's red, there's a charging error - contact kodak, they may provide a 5v ac adapter to resolve your charging issue
if it's green, was it blinking or solid? is the battery drained?
if the battery still has a little charge on it, please connect it to the computer then turn it on, check if there's power light
check if the screen is black - that means it's making a connection and the charging is the only issue - computer not detecting it, maybe resolved by kodak's software support
if the camera screen is active - that means there's definitely something wrong with the camera
arrange repairs with kodak, include the battery and usb cable

I too had a problem with the charging of the camera. After talking with a computer savy guy, he told me all USB ports are not equal. Many do not have the power to charge something. This goes for hubs as well as on board ports. I tried 3 computers and finally got the proper charge cycle to kick in. I am looking to get the AC adapter to bypass this problem.

I am having the same problem and have read that several others are having the same problem as well. My guess a lot of folks are having this problem. I plug the usb cable to camera/computer. Green light followed by 3 short red light blinks - - then nothing. Purchased new battery thinking defective battery but had same problem with new battery. Contacted Kodak and after several emails they promised a power adaptor but in spite of the fact that it is offered for sell on their online store they tell me their goodwill gesture adaptor is on backorder! So much for goodwill gestures. The camera is obviously defective and while they won't admit it, is why Kodak is offering the adaptor for free. Pathetic. Any ideas how to get Kodak to step up their offer to supply the adaptor? We've only had this camera for two months. It was a Christmas present for my daughter and have yet to use it.
Kodak is such a dinosaur company. They advised the AC Adaptor was on back order and couple days later I received it in the mail. Tried using it to charge both batteries both old and new. Same thing. It simply does not charge the battery. One green light blinks followed by 3 blinking red lights.
No advice needed. The camera is defective and the morans at Kodak customer service and tech just don't get it. It is a brand new camera since we have yet to be able to actually use it since Christmas. I don't want them to fix it - - I just want my money back on this piece of junk. Then I will go out and buy a reliable camera for my daughter. We will stay away from Kodak.
I also bought the M853 for my daughter for Christmas and have also been unable to use it. I've spent many hours on the phone with tech "support" (most of this time on hold) and I agree that they are clueless. My particular Problem is that I'm getting the message "USB Device Not Recognized" when I plug into the USB port to attempt to transfer photos. I ended up sending the brand new camera back to Kodak at MY expense and was sent a refurbished M853 (with a complimentary memory card for all my troubles including a letter written to a VP).
Well, now I'm having the same problem. I'm suspecting the USB cable now, but unfortunately it's such a unique cable I don't have a substitute lying around that I can try.
Does anyone have any suggestions?
i have camera m853 i plugged into the usb port to charge the lights comes on for 1-2 mins then it goes off my computer is not detecting ..
Please, please, PLEASE tell me I didn't buy a dud! I bought this camera to replace a friend's that I ruined, and I live in Central America so I can't very well just get support to mail me stuff! At the store where I bought the camera the salesman took it out of the box to make sure it worked...he plugged it in and it turned on...so I brought it home and plugged it into my husband's Mac. It first started blinking green for a while...then it stoppped so I tried to make it charge again and then got the one green light and several red blinking lights. Now I am not getting any lights at all. I have visited the Kodak website and done all that they offered...nothing worked. Their troubleshooting guide finally said I would have to send it in - it's brand freaking new! Please, help me out!!
I got a brand spankin new Kodak Easyshare M853. I first downloaded the software, then i followed the intructions. I plug it in to charge and the light never comes on. Is this a dud? Or just a minor problem? Please help me!!!!!
My M853 was a Christmas present from a few months ago, and was working & charging fine, but then all of a sudden, it wouldn't turn on and the shutter is NOT retracted. I connect the USB cable like usual, but it's been "charging" for 3 days now and the green light keeps going off no matter how many times I reinsert the battery & reset the USB cable. It still won't turn on (the shutter is still sticking out). Their help web page does not help. I've sent emails, but still they haven't said much or given me a solution that works.
Sometimes the green light blinks, other times it is steady. A couple of times, I've seen a single amber flash when I reset the USB cable to try to get it to "charge." I am really disappointed with this camera, and I have needed it the last 3 days it has been "charging."
I'll plug the camera up into the usb card to let it charge, the lights blinks for a minute and then goes off. Or if it do comes on the screen will be black.
plug in usb to computer and camera one green quick flashing light then three red then nothing. It also reformated my memory card can't open card on my computer before camera died I did put card back in an pictures can be viewed on camera just nothing is there when I go to transfer from memory stick to computer

i just got this camera and it wont charge on my laptop...i even tried hooking it up to my xbox 360 and it still wont charge...help plz?
My camera will not charge. It died and ever since, it will not turn on again. i will try to yurn it on, it turns on for like 2 secs and shuts off. i plug it into the computer and it does not charge. the wall charger does not work either. i need help. i really want to talk pictures.
light blinkz once green 3 times red n shuta off
First mine did the same. I just messed with it some and read the manual some more. If you put it on "Auto" and plug it in, then it will stay lit (green) when charging, and will go off when it is fully charged. If that doesnt work, buy a new battery. I got mine for less than $20-and it lasts awhile. If all else fails, call Kodak. They can replace your battery and/or charger or you can send it in to be fixed-at no charge if its still on warranty. It comes with a 1 year warranty at least.
I plug it into the computer it flashes red and stop It won't open to even take a picture It was working just fine until I tried downloading pictures onto my computer HELP
the sameeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
