HP Photosmart 3210xi - some colors (magentas) will not print

Am attempting to print with a Photosmart 3210xi printer that has had only moderate use. Have replaced all ink cartridges with new genuine HP 02 cartridges. Have performed head cleaning and alignment. Test prints do not include any magenta printing. Printing fine in blues, yellow, black, combinations (such as green). Nothing with light or deep magenta. Ink level displays show these to be full. Have tried different paper - a quality, name brand laser/copier paper. Same results.

Remove the magenta cartridge, and try cleaning the head with alcohol, maybe with a small paint brush or an acid brush. It sounds like ink has dried and plugged up that head.

If you don't print at least once a month, you will clog the machine. You unfortunately have to get it fixed by a professional or get a new printer. Sorry!

Hi rfillmore, I would suggest you update your printer drivers, try this, follow instructions exactly as written:

Create a new folder on your desktop and name it newhpdrivers(substitute your manufacturer in new name). Un-intall printer and printer software completely. Go to manufacturers website and navigate to their drivers/downloads or support menu. Select your model, choose the relevant software and download to the new folder you created on your desktop(watch for the light yellow bar at the top of window viewing pane, click on this and choose – download file - . Power down your computer. Reconnect the printer to the computer and turn printer on. Power on pc. Windows will detect new hardware and ask if you have the manufacturers install cd or a location to check for install files. Direct the wizard to your new software, follow the rest of the setup instructions and your done.

SOURCE: iP4300 only recognizes magenta OR cyan

1. Get compressed air
2. Run Printhead under HOT water, do not worry about contacts getting slightly wet.

3. Blow compressed air with straw attachment into screens where the cartridge nozzle sits on printhead. then let it sit and dry.

4. reinstall print test page

5. if this fails open paint/photoshop and print a page of the color that is not printing correctly. rinse and repeat until colors flow freely.

I have several ip4300s and I have yet to give up the ghost on a printer with a clog ujsing this method.

SOURCE: I have a HP Photosmart C5180 printer.

If your color improved slightly when running the printhead option then doing more should help get better results. Sometime the printheads get really dirty/clogged and running the cleaning option more then once is needed.

If you get a slight line running across the page (from left to right) usually the indicates dust build up on the printhead or ink carriage. The dust acts as a paint brush being dragged across your paper as the carriage moves across the page during printing. You can clean the bottom of the carriage with a Q-tip or purchase some cleaning paper for your printer.

SOURCE: Canon Pixma IP5000 wont print cyan or magenta

Think you need to clean the sponge that the ink cartridges sit on in the head tray they are probably blocked with dry ink. You can remove the print head and tray by lifting the lever and gently lifting it out..... go here http://www.inkjethelper.com/
to see how to carefully clean it with compressed air. I had to do this too.

Printer not printing Magenta with new printer cartridge installed

Are they HP cartridges or knock offs ? Cartridges have circuits in them and they will not work if they don;t match up with the printer. If it continues..contact HP. HP has gotten real messed up in their attempt at preventing people from using knock off cartridge. So much that sometime they screw up their own HP cartridge products.

The ink level in the color cartridge has three different colors in it. You may need a new cartridge. Magenta is usually the first to go out.

Photosmart C5280. Instructions on photo cartridge 348 say remove both black and colour cartridges, then install photo cartridge in right hand cartridge holder. Printer screen then tells me to install...

Your printer uses the following cartridges:

HP 74 - Black ink
HP 75 - Cyan, Magenta, and Yellow ink
HP 99 - Photo Black, Light Cyan, and Light Magenta

You need Photo Black, Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, Light Cyan, and Light Magenta to print photos. To accomplish this you install the HP 99 photo cartridge where your HP 74 black cartridge usually goes and you keep the HP 75 color cartridge where it's at. I don't know why your printer told you to remove both cartridges, then reinstall the HP 75 color cartridge.

My Dad's 3210xi all of a sudden prints pictures in blues & greens

Occasionally printer cartirdges can clog and become unusable after refilling them several times. Also, if a printer cartridge has been "dry" for a long period it may experience the same problem. Your best bet is to buy replacement cartridges for any colours that show problems on the test page. If there is a blue & green hue to your printing that would suggest that the magenta is not printing and should be replaced.
