Just had a new compressor installed. My refrigerator side by side is too cold. I have set the control to ''factory set'' but still is too cold. Adjusted to lower setting, still too cold, below 30. What is the problem?

Check the freezer compartment temperature.should be around zero.if it is around zero but to cold in the refrig compartment you would be looking for a air flow problem, many refigerators have motorized dampers, they sometimes freeze,or break and allow too much cold air into refrig.if freezer is below zero your looking at a control issue

We moved our whirlpol gold refrigerator and now it won't work

Sounds like the cold control has stuck . Unplug the two wires from the cold control and plug them together. Turn one wire over and plug it into the other. away from the cold control.
The cold control is the knob in the ref that turns it on and off and has numbers on it.
If it runs then that cold control is the problem.
If this doesn't work Do this

That is probably the compressor relay or cold control (Thermostat
The relay is on the compressor and needs replaced
A relay starts the compressor with a higher voltage and then quickly kicks out
Thats what is happening with yours
Its best for a tech to replace The relay but you can do it
Take your model number to your Local Appliance parts store they will have a diagram
showing you how to install the relay. Its called a hard start relay
also try hooking the two wires together on the cold control to route around the cold control.

Thank you for using fixya

My GE TFX30PP is constantly running and doesn't turn off. The freezer is very cold but the frig side isn't cold enough. A repair guy put in a new "cold contol" sensor but it didn't help.

This is a very common issue, If the freezer compartment is cold and making ice the
problem is simply airflow from the freezer into the refrigerated section.
Typically when one senses the refrigerator is warm they max out the settings
on both dials the thermostat with its 1-10 settings as well as off for the compressor.
This controls the compressor and temperature.
The additional setting or dial is for colder freezer or refrigerator as well , However
it simply opens or closes a flapper door between the freezer and refrigerator boxes.
When that dial or setting is maxed , it closes and makes the freezer colder, yet leaves the refrigerated section starved for sufficient airflow to maintain a cold box in the refrigerated section.
Just set the dial that does not turn the compressor off to the middle setting.
One can leave the thermostat that does control the compressor in the max setting , just not the colder freezer setting, If you notice colder isnt colder refrigerator, Its actually colder freezer, A common issue found on 25% of all refrigerator calls a simple setting adjustment.
Its easy to think that maxing out the settings makes for a colder refrigerator, it doesnt, it makes a colder freezer and warm rerigeration section.
If a freezer is making ice, theres nothing wrong with the unit other than airflow setting.
I would also clesan the condenser coils off.

Not getting cold anymore

Hi, it's either the start device on the compressor or you have a bad compressor. You'll have to pull it away from the wall and take the bottom back panel off to check the compressor. It will likely be real hot to the touch from what you described happening. If there is a little white colored box on the left side take that off and remove the wires, etc. and shake it... if it rattles and debris falls out then that's the problem. It's fairly common and they make a kit to replace it with a better designed part that's real easy to install yourself. If your compressor has a label on it with a blue indian head symbol, then you're out of luck as that brand pretty much sucks and is destroyed by heat. It would mean a new compressor and then you'd be lucky if the new one even worked from the factory. Avoid those Tecumseh compressors at all cost.

Take care

My refrigerator was unplugged for three months , now it wont get cold. What could be the problem?

if you can get to compressor set your cold control all the way down(coldest setting) then see if you hear contactor on compressor click if not give a tap from a small wooden or plastic mallet near and around the contactor(not directly on contactor case its plastic or aluminum) and see if that will start compressor,if comp is running and its overly warm it may be low on refrigerant

Refrigerator side temp keeps dropping below freezing.

Set the freezer temp control to MAX cold and see if it improves.
If not replace the off/on thermostat.(cold control)

Wide by side refirgertor side not getting cold

Remember, the control for the cold food refrigerator is merely a vent control.

If you can get no frost on the coils while the compressor is running, you then look at the condenser then the compressor (coolant charge).
