Sounds like a bad capacitor or two in the power section. Do you hear a hissing sound also?

u my have put the tv in shut down mode get your book that came with the tv and look for instrue on that tip always keep your plasms in the coolest spot in the room you wnnt them to stay cool heat stressess the gasses never hook up vides games to your tv also u only get about 3000 hrs before it needs expxnerxrepair hope this helps

This is a pitcure tube problem, either you buy another picture tube and change it on your TV or if this is under warranty better to send it back to the manufacturer and have this one repair.

Sony doesn't want anyone to see a poor picture on a Sony tv so they have a circuit that blanks the video if there is a weak picture or any other problem concerning picture quality. My Sony factory Instructor told me this many many years ago. I'm feeling old...but anyway you need a technician. Sorry.

Sounds like the CRTs are going into protective blanking due to the vertical output ic needing to be resolderd. Try resoldering the vertical IC that may possibly fix the issue.

need new tv

after replacing h-output, picture too wide. found c416 and c417 bad. looks fine, but checked bad on cap checker.
also replaced L413 L416 D407
also check caps in driver circuit and h-width circuit.
fixed mine.
